I purchased a Fitbit last month, I’ve tried contacting you and have not received a response. I am having the following issues with my device:

  1. Waking up of a morning and having 300+ steps
  2. Unable to link my card to the wallet as a wrong number is listed
  3. Only sometimes receiving text notifications
  4. Doesn’t sync to my phone
  5. After being told it was made of stainless steel I find out there is nickel in the buckle and face which I am allergic to and now my skin is now peeling

Could it be that you get out of bed at night? I know I do and I can step a little. If you don't,  then perhaps you're a restless sleeper? If you still think Versa is adding ghost steps, try changing the Wrist Placement setting to Dominant and reboot your device by pressing and holding the left and bottom right buttons until Fitbit logo flashes.

  1. Unable to link my card to the wallet as a wrong number is listed

For verification via SMS? Have you called your bank if perhaps they're require verification via phone? Or perhaps you need to contact your wireless provider to enable texting at this number?

  1. Only sometimes receiving text notifications

I was about to ask if it syncs properly but I see the answer below. It requires stable Bluetooth connection.

  1. Doesn’t sync to my phone

What's your phone model and OS? Also, versa firmware version and Fitbit app version?

  1. After being told it was made of stainless steel I find out there is nickel in the buckle and face which I am allergic to and now my skin is now peeling

Stainless steel doesn't mean nickel free. It depends on the class and grade of particular alloy. So, yes Fitbit versa is made of stainless steel but it does contain nickel. Like many other stainless steel grades.

Hi

I don't get out of bed at night and even if I went to the bathroom it wouldn't be that many steps but I'll try the dominant hand setting, thanks for the tip.

I've rebooted my versa several times as that is a troubleshooting fix and has not fixed the issues of syncing or not getting messages.

I'm trying to verify it via the fitbit app that send the text but the number they are texting isn't mine and I have enabled wearables with my bank.

I have a Huawei P20 Pro with Android and my fitbit versa firmware is 32.33.1.30 and latest version of the app from 17 Dec.

I specifically asked if there was a chance of nikel being in the smartwatch because I have an allergy and was told there wasn't

@TeganDaisy it seems like there's no reliable Bluetooth connection. First, try to restore it:

  1. Unpair (remove) Versa from your phone's bluetooth settings
  2. Uninstall the Fitbit mobile app
  3. Reboot your phone and install Fitbit mobile app. Do not pair in your phone's bluetooth settings
  4. Reboot your Versa by pressing and holding the left and bottom right buttons until Fitbit logo flashes
  5. Login to Fitbit mobile app
  6. Grant all permissions and sync.

The trick here is to not pair in phone Bluetooth settings but rather let the Fitbit mobile app do that.

Additional tips if sync issues persist: If you have Wifi set up, go to Fitbit mobile app and remove it, then sync your Versa. I noticed that it causes issues for me. If you have other Bluetooth devices paired with your phone, forget them. One of them might be causing issues.

For the notifications, please do the following:

  1. Turn OFF the Notifications in your Fitbit mobile app and on your Versa, reboot your phone and Versa, and turn the notifications back ON on both devices.
  2. Make sure All-day sync, Always Connected and Keep Alive Widget are enabled in the Fitbit mobile app. Make sure to sync after enabling them.
  3. Make sure the notifications are ON on your Versa. Press and hold the left button to access quick menu. Turn the notifications to ON.
  4. In the Fitbit mobile app, make sure you enabled the notifications and that Fitbit notification service is enabled in your phone settings. It needs to be ON.
  5. If your phone is in DND or silent mode, make sure Always vibrate option is enabled in your Fitbit mobile app. Also, it's always a good idea to toggle on/off notifications in the Fitbit mobile app with sync in-between.
  6. Make sure that any app you would like to receive notifications for on your Versa has the push notifications priority set to at least HIGH (this can be done in the Android settings>Notifications). Please see my post here for more info.
  7. Also, please make sure Fitbit mobile app is not being optimized by Android (Android settings>Battery>Optimization>Fitbit needs to be marked as not optimized).
  8. Finally, Huawei phones are known for extremely aggressive power management. Anything remotely more active gets killed including Fitbit mobile app. If all other fails, please lock the app in the background by using screen pinning. Please google that.

Regarding the allergy, the only thing that comes to my mind is getting a case for versa or a type of leather/fabric cuff band with the hole for sensor.

@TeganDaisy you can try syncing with other device. If this does not help try downgrading Fitbit mobile app to version 2.74.2. this is pretty stable build that seems to work best in problematic cases. You can find APK file on the internet. You will have to uninstall your current Fitbit app and simply install 2.74.2.
