Fitbit OS 2.2 - Versa Firmware Release (32.12.19)

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi, everyone! I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 2.2! (Firmware Version: 32.12.19) At this time, we've released Fitbit OS 2.2 to a small group of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users.

WHAT'S CHANGED?

Please check out this help article to see what's new in this update.

IS THIS UPDATE AVAILABLE TO ME?

This update has only been released to a small group of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users. If you have not yet received an update notification and wish to force the update, you can give the watch a FACTORY RESET and then follow steps 1 - 4 below. Please make sure you sync the watch before performing the reset so that all your current data transfer over. Factory resetting your device clears all data from the watch including music, Fitbit Pay information, and apps. Historical Fitbit data will still be available in the Fitbit App.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here. We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article.

If you run into trouble updating your Ionic, please follow these steps:

  1. Restart the watch.
  2. "Remove" the watch from your account inside of the Fitbit app.
  3. "Forget" the watch from your phone's Bluetooth settings (along with any other Fitbit devices paired to your phone)
  4. Try the update again.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have questions, please let me know in this thread!

@InspectrColumbo actually you're again of track here. 😊 The high sales of the quarter are mainly thanks to versa. Charge 3 has been recently released. The predicted numbers for the next quarter are actually higher than previously expected. Sorry for hijacking the thread. 😊

News flash... the problems are NOT just with the Versa. Same syncing issues exist with the Charge 3.

The problem is with the app and server side syncing problems.

Hey Fitbit... when are you going to acknowledge and fix the underlying problem?!!!

PS - In addition to all the other problems... Fitbit's Community messaging doesn't even work correctly.  I initially posted this from my phone.  It gave an error message that it would not post.  So I tried again.  Obviously it DID post, twice now!

Great job Fitbit... NOT!!!

What is your evidence?

Is it only in the app that the ghost steps turn up? I thought they showed on the watch itself too!

Mods... you need to step up and be quite a bit more honest than this.

At least admit there is a problem.

And, for the record, the same problems exist with the Charge 3.  This is NOT just a Versa problem.  The underlying problem is with server side syncing.  Please at least acknowledge this.

My Versa is now on warranty replacement.  After months of intermittent syncing it finally just completely quit syncing.  No amount of troubleshooting would resolve it.  So it is being replaced and is now in shipping for warranty replacement.

In the interim I decided to give Fitbit one last chance.  I picked up a Charge 3... partly out of curiosity to see if it was more stable.  When my Versa returns I was going to gift the Charge 3 to my daughter.

Well guess what... Charge 3 is no more stable than Versa.  Sometimes it syncs and sometimes it doesn't.  Once again... Fitbit... the problems are with the app and server side syncing.

I am giving Fitbit until end of next week... when my Versa returns.  If it does not immediately work correctly, I am returning the Charge 3 to point of sale... throwing the Versa away... and going back to my old Pebble Time Steel... which ironically syncs just perfectly... still.

And know this Fitbit... if I have to give up... I will take this fight to Reddit... and believe me... you've never seen the likes of the truth storm that will be unleashed... it WILL be the end of Fitbit!!!

I threw it away a few weeks ago... Fitbit is dead.

The Ionic, Versa and now the charge 3 all have the same problems. My fear is they went cheap on the hardware and no firmware will ever make these things work right.

As I have just seen, a firmware update was released on 11/2/2018 for the Charge 3 and on 11/6/2018 for 100% to all users.

See link: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Charge-3/Charge-3-Firmware-Release-1-44-33/td-p/3042257

From my Blaze experience, I know that a rollout from 10% to 100% never takes more than 2 weeks. Therefore it can be assumed that the firmware version 32.12.19 for the Versa causes issues and is therefore held back.

That wouldn't be so bad if Fitbit made a public announcement about it.
eg. We are working on a newer firmware that elimantes unanticipated issues.

But why does Fitbit always have to keep quiet about such matters?

The Versa users are waiting since 10/9/18!

I am already on that firmware update on Charge 3.

Guess what... syncing just as bad... maybe worse than before.

Fitbit Update: 11/6/18

Hi everyone!

We released Fitbit OS 2.2 to a small subset of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa customers. If you already have Fitbit OS 2.1 on your watch and want to upgrade to Fitbit OS 2.2, you can factory reset your device to receive the update. See How do I erase my Fitbit device?

*Please note that factory resetting your device clears all data from the watch including music, Fitbit Pay information, and apps. All your Fitbit data is still available in the Fitbit app.

If you’re having issues updating from a previous version, we’re working on making the update more widely available.

We hope this helps you get back on track.

Just give the rest of us the update instead of leaving us hanging in the air for 4 weeks with no update to firmware version 32.12.19 and factory resetting our Fitbit Versas isn’t gonna give us 32.12.19 all it does is just erases everything off of it.

@Troikaflight  "The underlying problem is with server side syncing. "   What makes you believe the problem is with the server side (internet) and not the tracker side (bluetooth)? I have been watching the bluetooth traffick between the mobile and the tracker (Versa) for a week or two now, still have to write a report. My feeling is definitively that it is on the bluetooth side. But I can be wrong and am curious to hear why you think it is on the server side...

I agree. It is one thing to claim it is a server-side problem. It is another to even know what that means, which most people won’t.

The server side for the app is in the cloud. However the server side for the watch is the app, ie the phone works as a server for the watch, responding to its requests for data, storing uploaded data, etc. So saying ‘server-side’ is ambiguous

The factory reset itself will not cause the firmware update, but it may trigger the app to access it rather than waiting, and that is the point I think you have missed.

And as said before, be careful what you wish for. Reports so far suggest it is not a universal panacea. Patience is a virtue.

This worked for me. Restored the device to factory settings and when the watch updated during setup it got updated to 32.12.19.

Hopefully the bugs are fixed well. Will put a feedback in few days if it's worth updating or not.
