Fitbit OS 2.2 - Versa Firmware Release (32.12.19)

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi, everyone! I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 2.2! (Firmware Version: 32.12.19) At this time, we've released Fitbit OS 2.2 to a small group of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users.

WHAT'S CHANGED?

Please check out this help article to see what's new in this update.

IS THIS UPDATE AVAILABLE TO ME?

This update has only been released to a small group of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users. If you have not yet received an update notification and wish to force the update, you can give the watch a FACTORY RESET and then follow steps 1 - 4 below. Please make sure you sync the watch before performing the reset so that all your current data transfer over. Factory resetting your device clears all data from the watch including music, Fitbit Pay information, and apps. Historical Fitbit data will still be available in the Fitbit App.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here. We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article.

If you run into trouble updating your Ionic, please follow these steps:

  1. Restart the watch.
  2. "Remove" the watch from your account inside of the Fitbit app.
  3. "Forget" the watch from your phone's Bluetooth settings (along with any other Fitbit devices paired to your phone)
  4. Try the update again.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have questions, please let me know in this thread!

Here it would be useful for some developer input:

Is a failure of a watch app, eg a clock-face app, likely to be an app-specific bug, or is there a general problem with the revised SDK for .19, which either makes it difficult for developers to get things right, or is a bug in the SDK itself, or a documentation issue for the APIs?

Likely that the watchface hasn't been updated if it was required.

Same thing happens with phone apps when the OS updates. There can be incompatibilities until the app is updated.

It was just an analog clock from Fitbit. I tried to cancel the download and go back to the original digital one and ran into the same thing. That's why I did the factory reset. And now nothing is working.

You mean it was not a 3rd party clock-face, but one written by Fitbit? Hmm. Not good.

That's correct. I generally do not download third party features, apps or anything like that for exactly this reason. 😑

Trying to understand what you write: you tried to change the original digital watchface with another one, and then you write "it doesn't work" AND you write "I tried to cancel the download", meaning it was the download that didn't work, not the actual watch face????

Then you tried to download the original one again (not sure why?), and also there the download got stuck? No matter what, you managed to do a hard reset (via the settings menu??) and now you are trying to set up the watch from scratch but there you are stuck in the app that it doesn't "see" the Versa?

It sounds like a little mess 😞 but it does help if you can be very precise in exactly what does not work so the community can help instead of speculate wildly.

Just to confirm: you have removed the Versa from the app, you have unpaired it from bluetooth, and you are going through the normal setup process of adding a device. And when the app is looking for the device it doesn't find it? If that is the case I have two hints:

  • make sure you are not close to a PC or other bluetooth devices, they easily interfere
  • if that is not the case, you should remove the fitbit app, reinstall, log-in, and then try to connect to the watch. This hint is listed several places here in the forum, and it also worked for me.

Good luck and let the community know how it goes!!

I can confirm that having a PC nearby with Bluetooth enabled causes interference of communications between my iPhone and my Versa. I have to live with PC Bluetooth turned off, which is an inconvenience I grudgingly accept.

There was a time when Bluetooth was seen as a big improvement over endless cable clutter. Today my view of Bluetooth is that it is one of the most problematic aspects of using computing devices.

@AlessFitbit (or anyone else who knows):

Before I go through the trouble of a factory reset to load the 2.2 OS I have one question, that I've seen a lot of people here ask already without a clear answer:

Does this update fix the problem where the Exercise App does not remember custom settings and goes back to the default settings all the time?

That's really the only reason I want an update, because having to customise the exercise over and over every time I work out is very annoying.

ie not very much apart from the new OS.
Probably not worth updating to until they're ready to release it to everyone.

I went through the update process and haven't seen any problems so far. To answer your question, when I choose an exercise and customize my stats, they now stick. Next time I choose that exercise, the stats I selected are still there.

Same here with the update.

@MrGlenn YES IT DOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clearly I'm pleased to be saving the extra 30 seconds before every workout. I also seem to be getting more consistently good battery life. And it hasn't crashed yet.

@meresydotes Can you throw some numbers at me? How long would your Versa's battery last before the update and how long does it last now?

@Marrrmaduke I actually charge my Versa  to full (usually 99% - weird Fitbit - sometimes to 100, but it only stays there a few minutes) every day when I'm in the shower - well longer than that, but you know. Before the update, the battery life left before I put it on the charger would generally be between 73 and 78, so not bad. But not consistent. Sometimes, it would go below 70, but not often. Since the update, it's generally about 78 when it hits the charger. I don't think it's been below 77 or above 79. Not a huge difference and it wasn't bad before. But more consistently good.

@Marrrmaduke - I've been monitoring the battery life and comparing it to records I took from before the update. There is a significant difference in my case.

Since the update, there is only a marginal difference in battery life whether notifications and autosync are on or off. This is different to before the update, where the difference I recorded was larger.

Comparing before and after the update, for example, for the same hours, the battery is showing a 10% plus improvement at 65 hours (2.7 days). Today after 65 hours it still has 55% battery life. Previously (before the update) at just under 65 hours it had 44% remaining (and that was minimising settings - no autosync and no notifications).

Extending the trend, the battery will now last 6 days with notifications on and autosync on, whereas before it would only last 5 days and that was with notifications off and autosync off. Playing music and exercising a lot will reduce this time, though I've yet to check by how much (I've not been quite as active as usual).

My next test will include normal activity (more steps, listening to music, using GPS etc.) Then I'll stop testing and just enjoy using it 🙂

The weather app still doesn't work - no biggie 🙂 (On Windows phone and laptop.) The phone notification is better and now has a message for a missed call, which sticks.

Hi everyone. Thank you for sharing your experiences after updating the Firmware on your Versa. This information does help a lot and may encourage other members in the same situation.

@Willdell You should be able to get the update regardless of your location just be aware that you will need to set up your Versa after a Factory Reset.

@Ryan79 thank you for sharing the help article with the update notes.

I'll be around!

You need to send the update through the fitbit app like you did with firmware version 32.10.15 as I will not do it by factory resetting my watch and end up lose everything off of it and starting all over

this is getting ridiculous and still no update through the app which isn’t fair at all Smiley Mad
