Fitbit Update: 9/16

Hi everyone,

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.0.1, available for Versa and Versa Lite

(Firmware Version: 68.9.12).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

This release includes bug fixes and improvements.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Versa can be found here

To update Versa Lite Edition, leave on all-day sync and let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone. When the update is ready, you’ll see a notification in the Fitbit app.

If you run into any trouble updating your Versa or Versa Lite, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips

We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

The new update has completely locked my Fitbit and made it useless. I am furious as I use my Fitbit a lot!

I've just got notifications back working again after the new firmware update. Even though the app on my android phone was the latest version I uninstalled it and re-installed, gave it permissions etc. then rebooted the phone.

Hello, yesterday I saw the update button in my app, but I wasn't connected to the wifi so I couldn't update.  Today the update button is gone... how can I do the update now?

Hi @Ellis_ I had the same thing happen a few days ago. The update did come back after a few days later while I was on WiFi.

Since I updated on Thursday I have not been able to receive any text alerts.  I can get phone calls only.  I have the updated version of the app,  tried unpairing, deleted the device and reinstalled,  did a factory reset and everything else thats been suggested. Now what?

This update had made my versa struck in Quick setting menu. The back buttons are not working (frequent issue with all buttons) because of which i can't restart as well. Now waiting for the battery to get drained for auto restart. I hope there is no option to restart via app which might have helped since the buttons always struck in regular intervals. It annoys a lot that i can't use my watch.

I had the firmware notification on my phone yesterday afternoon and by the time I got home to install it, it was gone.  Now I can not update the firmware.  I still am not getting my phone or text message notifications,

What is the point of having the Fitbit Versa if it doesn't work?

I updated my fitbit versa last night and nothing is working now, even the tracking lights aren't flashing! So frustrating, I wish I hadn't updated it!

Did the update ... Now I don't get notifications and my Versa won't sync! I depend on my Fitbit for the notifications while I'm working since I can't use my phone at work. My kids KNOW they can always reach me because I have it and now ......... This needs to be fixed!! Ideas?

Updated last night - seems pretty straightforward so far, but main thing I've noticed is that the text replies don't seem to be going through from my Versa.  It says "message is on its way" - but never received.  Help??

I've had my Versa just a few weeks. I actually ordered it a day or two before the announcement of the new version came out. (Bad timing on my part!)

I have re-set it up.

I asked my son to help. He did all the trouble shooting, and re-set it up.

All was working until the update. Now it isn't getting the text notifications.

OBVIOUSLY a problem with the update.

I am occasionally getting notifications...seems to be pretty random which ones I'm getting and which ones I'm not. Most of them aren't coming through but a few are.

For example, over the last 10 mins my phone has gotten one FB Messenger notification and one Gmail notification. The FB message never made it to the watch. The Gmail message did.

For what it's worth, I'm on a Google Pixel 3 with Android 10 and a Versa Lite with the *previous* firmware version (I have not yet gotten the update...which I guess I should be thankful for?).

Same here! No vibrations for my notifications ☹️

I too am one of the Versa 1 users afflicted with the lack of text notifications (no vibration).  Calls come through fine but I am at least not getting alerted to a text, even though it shows up on my notification bar when I swipe down.  I checked and updated the app as well as ensured that I wasn't in DnD or Sleep modes both on the watch and on the app.

I’m having the same problem, it just so happened that I also updated my phone to the new iOS.

An update on my end...

So I haven't updated to the new software I haven't seen that option on my
phone yet. However, last week my Versa all of a sudden stopped getting text
notifications, I get all other notifications. After trying all the
troubleshooting tips at least 3x and a 30min chat session with Fitbit
support, still no solution.

Yesterday, I went ahead and tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Fitbit
app. It worked! Thank goodness! I wonder why that's not one of the
troublshooting tips..? For now, I won't update to the new software, I'm
afraid of ruining thigs.

Update ... I know some previous comments said not to factory reset the Fitbit because you could lose your data/settings or whatever. I went ahead and did it AND I uninstalled then reinstalled the app. BINGO! I've got all of my notifications again!

Me too @Chris.Davis303 .  Great stuff!  This is in regard to no notifications apart from calls after the Versa firmware update with a Versa 1 and an up to date Android phone.  Can you confirm, so others who read this understand, that factory reset of the Versa didn't work, And also updating the phone app also didn't work.  But that uninstalling the phone app, and reinstalling did work?  That's exactly what I found.

Update to my query. I unpaired  my fitbit and deleted software and reinstalled. I uninstalled the fitbit app off my phone and reinstalled it. Paired them back up and all works fine. Although WhatsApp is still slow to come through but at least it now does. 4.5 hrs of my life I'll never get back. 😁

This only applies to Android phones and the latest firmware and the no notifications problem.

No Idea why Fitbit staff are not replying, but in my case, with an Android 8 phone, the only fix for no notifications was to uninstall and re-install the phone app despite it being the same version (which defies logic..)

@Catniss99 Looks like Fitbit are having a long weekend...  Can you try uninstalling your phone app, and reinstalling.  In my case I didn't have to delete any cached data etc, and it remembered me when I signed back in with my email/password.  On android a long press on the icon and hit the X at the top uninstalls it, and google play store installs it. Yes you will have to confirm your pin if you use the Wallet (which is a good thing), and in my case it remembered everything else.

@EriktheRED See above.

Please reply good or bad and tag me @MikeD73 .  If it looks like i'm way off the mark I'll delete this.
