Fitbit Update: 10/30

Hi, Versa Smartwatches family,

We're happy to announce that Fitbit OS 4.0.2 (Firmware Version: 68.9.15) has now gone out to 100% of all users. Please download it if you haven't already.

We always recommend keeping your watch and the Fitbit app up to date on the latest versions to have the best experience.

Fitbit Update: 10/9

Hi everyone,

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.0.2 (Firmware Version: 68.9.15).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

This release includes bug fixes and improvements.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Versa can be found here

To update Versa Lite Edition, leave on all-day sync and let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone. When the update is ready, you’ll see a notification in the Fitbit app.

If you run into any trouble updating your Versa or Versa Lite, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips

We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

I repeated the install of another watch face and again reinstalled the one I was using and this time it worked.
Hope you are happy with your solution.

Thanks.

Mine seems to be fixed now. Started tracking active minute and sleep again.

Just a suggestion for iPhone users, but be aware that OS updates done over WiFi are cumulative and serve to patch an existing installation. I suspect that over time repeated patching introduces bugs into the system.

If you update via USB and iTunes, the whole updated OS is downloaded and installed job lot which may resolve your issues.

Personally, I think it is good practice to set up one's iPhone as a new phone when upgrading major OS versions, but that means zapping everything on the phone and having to set it up according to preference again, which I accept many will not want to do.

Spent at least an hour with customer support and was able to definitively determine my Versa is bricked, courtesy of the firmware update I believe. Of course customer service didn't attribute the problem to anything Fitbit could possibly be responsible for. Didn't have the luck that other posters have had with receiving a replacement device, either. That was flat out refused by my moderator, John W. He did offer a discount on a new Fitbit. With the problems I had with the Versa, there is no way I'm spending money on another Fitbit product. Very disappointed that Fitbit doesn't stand behind their products, admit when an update they pushed goes awry, and make amends to their customers.

@Casual_Runner  They may be sending me a new one,  no guarantee it'll work.  I went and got myself the Samsung watch.  And woo-hoo it works

I'd be really interested to know how accurate the HR is on the Samsung watch. I've read reviews stating it didn't do very well in that respect. But then, the reviews say the Versa IS accurate so.......

I'm waiting for a replacement due to the crazy HR issues NOT related to the update. Same things though, no guarantee that this one will be any better. In fact at first, they balked at sending me a replacement stating that it's a known issue and there was no point in sending me another that would be the same.

Best Answer

@lorraineg  I would say that at least half the time I look at my Versa that the HR is wrong. Usually somewhere around 20 BPM too fast. My wife’s Charge 2 doesn’t seem very accurate either. Does any smart watch do a good job of this?

I'm with you. I updated my firmware and now my the heart rate sensor doesn't work. I did a factory reset and after reaching out to them they didn't even offer to trouble shoot it. Merely said they would offer me a coupon code for a new tracker. It isn't even a year and a half old. They need to be called out on this. I'm not going to give up on this. They're willing to lose customers simply because they want to make a buck. I used to talk this company up bigtime and even recommended the versa to a coworker and they bought one. Never again unless they really come through on this. YOUR update borked my tracker. Do something!

@Deathwishvixen

Or anyone else, I'm currently in contact with fit bit support via email about my watches notifications not working with IOS. I only bought the watch 5 months ago. Was anyone able to get a full refund?

Best Answer

@SunsetRunner No. Unless you bought it directly from the Fitbit website within the last 30 days you won’t get a refund. They’re posting me out another one, which will no doubt have the same issue. I went and got a Samsung galaxy active watch today. Battery isn’t as good as the Versa , but I get notifications for everything I want . And they are compatible with all android as well as iOS , which surprised me.

@lorraineg  So far the hr is looking the same as my Versa and Versa 2.

Is yours the older edition of versa or the versa 2? I wonder if the problem is the same on the newer watch. Waiting to see what they say back to me.

Best Answer

@SunsetRunner  I've got both.  I though I broke my versa 1 so I got the versa 2 2 weeks ago and same issue.

I was not experiencing the High HR reading but I finally did a factory reset.  To my delight that reverted my Versa to version 33.1.30 and all my issues went away.

I will not be updating any time soon.

I commented a couple days ago. Since I've updated the active minutes, heart rate, and sleep tracker weren't functioning.  I followed all the recommended steps... and then yesterday(Tuesday night) it seemed to be resolved.  Once again this morning - no active minutes, or sleep tracking available. Not sure what caused to work then not work again, but it happened.

If you really want accuracy, you need a chest strap. Most wrist worn devices do fairly well with resting HR or consistent pace exercises such as walking, but don’t do well at all with things like HIIT, weight lifting, circuit training, etc. Even the Apple Watch seems to get mixed reviews on HR results...

The same as in accurate or inaccurate?

First the notifications stopped and now it does not track my sleep!.. I use to love my Versa... I think I am gonna look into another watch

Since the update my battery is lasting less than a full day instead of the previous 3-4 days. What's going on with this update, how can I umdo it so I can use my Versa again?
