Fitbit Update: 1/9/2020
Hey, Versa Smartwatches family!
I hope everyone is enjoying the start of the New Year. Before the holidays, we released this firmware out to 100%.
If you still don't see the update for Fitbit OS 4.1 (70.7.14) because it's brand new or perhaps was gifted to you for Christmas, please continue syncing the watch and make sure you have all-day sync turned on. You will soon after see the banner prompting you to update to this firmware.
Thanks for your patience and hope you continue enjoying this update!
Fitbit Update: 12/5
Hi, Versa Smartwatches family!
We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1 (Firmware Version: 70.7.14).
We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.
WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED
The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:
Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30 minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.
Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.
On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.
Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.
Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations and if on, the always-on display on Versa 2 to preserve your battery life.
Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.
For more information on the new features included in Fitbit OS 4.1 check out this article. You can also check out our press release.
HOW DO I UPDATE?
Step by step instructions for updating your Versa/Versa 2 can be found here.
To update Versa Lite Edition, leave on all-day sync and let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone. When the update is ready, you’ll see a notification in the Fitbit app.
If you run into any trouble updating your Versa, Versa 2 or Versa Lite, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips. If you have any issues after completing the update, when in doubt, try a restart on the watch.
How to restart your watch:
We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

I took my Fitbit back to shop, they knew nothing of the update but they tried to do a factory reset but didn’t work. They had no option but to replace the Fitbit. As soon as I installed it the update popped up but I’ve ignored it.

Do you mean the update popped up in the new Versa you've got?

I have the classic versa and got the update two days ago. Since then, the display takes ages to change of screen and the same goes with the notifications when I want to expand them...

After updating, my Versa 2 restarts itself from time to time, stops showing heart rate, the touch screen doesn’t work and some notifications doesn’t show up. How do I fix this?

I just tried to reset my Versa to factory settings after unpairing it from my fitbit account, and then did a new set up. And it worked! Firmware got updated to OS 4.1 (70.7.14) and it seems to be working fine so far! I will see tomorrow morning if the feature I've been waiting for (smart wake) works as I expect!

After a factory reset, the screen and notifications responsiveness are back to normal. I have also noticed than some clock faces I used to display before have now an impact on screen responsiveness (when it wasn't the case with the former firmware).
However, my Today app is less complete as before and doesn't let me add more than 3 parameters now... Another problem to fix...

UCGFM, about the today app, if I swipe up from the bottom to display the logo with Today underneath it, then tap the logo and see the stats, swipe down through those I get a "Settings" box at the bottom, click on that and it shows me the stats options, little boxes with ticks, and at the top of that list it says "Select up to 7 stats to easily track with Fitbit Today" I only select five but they all show.

UCGFM, with regard to your comment about clock faces and screen responsiveness, what do you mean by "screen responsiveness"? I have four faces in the "clocks" option and they all seem to behave the same.

I want to share my experiences about this update. As a result of this, My versa lite was turned to the wearable-brick.
Today I sent the support request mail to the fitbit. and, waiting the reply.

I often experience shorter battery life after an update. Be sure you check settings as some will have "reset" to more batter hungry settings with the update: all day sync being a prime example.

@RaibzWey surely it's better to update it now whilst it's still in warranty? I updated my Versa 2 as soon as the update was released, the process for me was flawless. I'm very happy with the update and new features.

N8teGee, I agree. The process has gone well for me and I am happy with the new features, particularly clock face store and Agenda

Update on my Versa 1 with the failed update. It never responded to reset attempts. The logo blinked on and off until eventually the battery died. It does not hold a charge after being placed on charger for several hours. So, yes, it's bricked.
Thankfully, they agreed to send a replacement (I had synched just before the attempted update and I'm sure they could see that). I will not be attempting this firmware update when the replacement arrives. 😳

[update] I did a battery drain test and while the versa is on the battery drains at about 1% per hour (which is awesome). BUT. It won't sync its data even though it is connected through the bluetooth and seems to sync properly, AND the time on it is wrong by a little over an hour. I have a brand new versa 2, and it functions perfectly
[edit] The time on my versa classic is off by about 12 hours now
[more recent edit] I'm continuing the battery drain test and it seems to be draining 3% every hour, which is still very good

The update is wonderful, except there was no change in the swim tracking for the Versa 2. We still just get a stopwatch, no laps, lengths, distance or real-time data on the watch - you have to go back to the app (on the phone, in the locker) to get data. There are now dozens of complaints about this - can you tell me if Fitbit is (1) even aware of our complaints, (2) doing anything to address this issue, or (3) going to ignore these complaints and not make changes? Please, give us swimmers some news!!

Since the update I am getting ghost images in my Versa display rendering the watch unreadable 90% of the time. I can see the time when the screen first comes on then I the background gets dime. When I scroll to see steps they are displayed over top of the time etc. Customer support had no suggestions other than a factory reset which I had already tried. Offered me a 25% discount on a new device but pointed out that this would not be on top of any sale prices. AS IF I would ever buy again from a company that treats their customers this badly.
