Fitbit Update: 1/9/2020

Hey, Versa Smartwatches family!

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of the New Year. Before the holidays, we released this firmware out to 100%.

If you still don't see the update for Fitbit OS 4.1 (70.7.14) because it's brand new or perhaps was gifted to you for Christmas, please continue syncing the watch and make sure you have all-day sync turned on. You will soon after see the banner prompting you to update to this firmware.

Thanks for your patience and hope you continue enjoying this update!

Fitbit Update: 12/5

Hi, Versa Smartwatches family!

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1 (Firmware Version: 70.7.14).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:

    • Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30 minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.

    • On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.

    • Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.

    • Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations and if on, the always-on display on Versa 2 to preserve your battery life.

    • Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.

For more information on the new features included in Fitbit OS 4.1 check out this article. You can also check out our press release

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Versa/Versa 2 can be found here

To update Versa Lite Edition, leave on all-day sync and let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone. When the update is ready, you’ll see a notification in the Fitbit app.

If you run into any trouble updating your Versa, Versa 2 or Versa Lite, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips. If you have any issues after completing the update, when in doubt, try a restart on the watch.

How to restart your watch:

  1. For Fitbit Versa, press and hold the back and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen. For Fitbit Versa Lite/Fitbit Versa 2, hold the back(left) button for 10 seconds.
  2. Let go of the buttons.

We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

Dcapra211 is 100% Correct. Could not have said it better. I have smartphones in this same price range that have provided 3-4 years of service suffering only from slightly diminished battery life or inability to handle some of the newer apps. I'm not spending >$100 on a new tracker every year.

I couldn't agree with you more. The upgrade process broke my out of
warranty versa one. When I chatted online the rep halfheartedly tried to
help me before trying to push me to buying a versa 2 with their fake 25
percent discount and then proceeded to have the audacity to justify what a
great deal they were giving me. She even refused to let me speak with a
supervisor stating that they wont do anything different then she would.

Luckily for me i gave up on customer service and bit the bullet and tried a
factory reset and after some trial and error I got my fitbit working. Doing
a factory reset was not in any if the instructions sent to me. I totally
felt that the rep was not interested in fixing a problem that fitbit
caused, but was only interested in a new sale.

My phone is on the list. I finally chatted with some one at fit bit, it was an easy fix just uninstall and reinstall the app on my phone. That fix should have been here some where

Untrue, us with sense already try that before reporting

My firmware upgrade went fine.  Noticed that the step count was not. Held the button for 10 seconds and the Versa 2 restarted and then displayed accurately. No other issues. Keep display off. Use for heartrTe, sleep, etc. no other issues identified.

I win, I did it longer multiple times yesterday.

I have the same.
The funny thing s that the firmware version says: 32.70.7.14.

Also my fitbit Versa doesn’t synch sleep anymore and I see no floors. After a reboot it works again for some time, but I just discovered again no registration the last couple of days.

the Versa battery was full when I updated .
something else: since the update the battery drains faster than it used to do.

Any ideas? This is not workable.

Everytime there has been a firmware update it has reset my device to "all day sync" which causes the battery to drain rapidly. To correct this you go to the Fitbit app on your phone, click on the device and scroll down and there is a button for "all day sync" and uncheck this.
They would save themselves and their customers a lot of aggravation if they would tell you these things' how to reboot, how to do a factory reset etc.

Thank you for that suggestion PaddleOn.  I think I may have solved my problem last night.  I did a factory reset on tracker and upon reset it updates to latest OS version.  Where yesterday I had drained 30% off of battery in approx. 24 hrs.  Today after about 18 hours only 9% battery depletion.  With you suggestion of un-checking all day sync I should even be able to receive even more battery life.

I guess the part that is still disappointing is the lack of help and professionalism from Fit bit phone support.  Why did they not suggest a factory reset?

This is multiple occasion in last couple of years with Fitbit phone support and they are worthless.

Any idea on how to fix battery going completely dead over night on a Versa since updating??? Won’t even hold a charge for a day. Worked fine before update and all day sync is turned off. Will even go dead when it’s turned off.

Can’t believe this. I was so excited to have multiple faces and waiting for this update to appear. Eagerly, I ran it the second it came up. What a big mistake!  It’s been 2 days and if I power it down over night it takes forever to start up and the battery is gone!   I tried erasing it and starting over but no difference. So disappointed. :(. I should have read this post from the start. Nothing but issues. Typical Fitbit. Ugh.

Multiple people posted earlier in this thread that the firmware update killed or damaged their battery.  Have you tried a factory reset? This is different from just turning the Fitbit on and off again and requires considerable time and the Versa on the charger.  If that doesn't work and sync is off then we will have to leave you to he dubious assistance of customer support.

Since I updated, the battery life has significantly reduced. I'd start with 99% in the beginning of the day and ended with 72%. Now it ends with 39%. Shocker. Any suggestions?

I did a factory reset 2 dats ago and that has seemed to improve mine
significantly. Jury is still out if this restores to pre update
capability.

Settings, About, Factory Reset. After watch finishes resetting goto your
app and set up new device.

When the reset happens the tracker does a clean reinstall of latest
firmware.
