Fitbit Update: 1/9/2020

Hey, Versa Smartwatches family!

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of the New Year. Before the holidays, we released this firmware out to 100%.

If you still don't see the update for Fitbit OS 4.1 (70.7.14) because it's brand new or perhaps was gifted to you for Christmas, please continue syncing the watch and make sure you have all-day sync turned on. You will soon after see the banner prompting you to update to this firmware.

Thanks for your patience and hope you continue enjoying this update!

Fitbit Update: 12/5

Hi, Versa Smartwatches family!

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1 (Firmware Version: 70.7.14).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:

    • Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30 minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.

    • On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.

    • Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.

    • Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations and if on, the always-on display on Versa 2 to preserve your battery life.

    • Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.

For more information on the new features included in Fitbit OS 4.1 check out this article. You can also check out our press release

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Versa/Versa 2 can be found here

To update Versa Lite Edition, leave on all-day sync and let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone. When the update is ready, you’ll see a notification in the Fitbit app.

If you run into any trouble updating your Versa, Versa 2 or Versa Lite, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips. If you have any issues after completing the update, when in doubt, try a restart on the watch.

How to restart your watch:

  1. For Fitbit Versa, press and hold the back and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen. For Fitbit Versa Lite/Fitbit Versa 2, hold the back(left) button for 10 seconds.
  2. Let go of the buttons.

We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

Hello everyone, thank you again for all the feedback provided. It is particularly difficult when the device is no longer covered by the warranty, but even tough Support is eager to help with any problem you may experience with the product, they do need to adhere to the official warranty policy, this would start counting from the original date of purchase.

Thank you for sharing this information about the syncing process and battery life of your Versa @Bokieman, it's good to know that restarting the watch 3 times in a row has worked out for you.

@PoloChrissy @FBitHWGoodSWBad @juschwartz  thank you for the update and for sharing all this information. I've proceeded to send your information to the Customer Support team as well so they can provide you with further assistance.

Thank you for the update @Jop-Purnell, let us know if you receive a reply from the Customer Support team about this.

Welcome to the Community forums @VannerT, could you please confirm if you're having trouble with the battery draining too fast, or with the screen not turning back on when the watch runs out of battery?

@Rassid, could you please confirm if you've received a reply from the Customer Support team? Make sure to check on your spam folder as well. I recommend that you continue the communication with them, since you've exhausted all troubleshooting options found in the forums.

Keep me posted.

What does the warranty period have to do with FitBit messing up our watches with this firmware update. Nothing was wrong with my watch until the update and now I can't turn it off at night and the battery doesn't last nearly as long.

Had to turn sync off to save the battery, so if the watch does die it doesn't automatically update the time.

When is the software fix going to be released?

Offering all of us 25% off coupons is an insult.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S10 +,  I am not getting any text messages or phone notifications.  This very annoying considering Fitbit says we can get all these notifications.  I have done everything from the help forums and still nothing.  I am not impressed with Fitbit, for the price we pay they should have developers that can write code to fix these issues.

I posted earlier that I had restarted my Versa and my heart rate started working again. Now my battery life is dropping fast. What in the world is going on with these things??

And I restarted it again a few times to try to fix the battery issue and now the heart rate stopped working again! 😡

What if the replacement will have same issue after setting it up? Since there’s no update on firmware yet.

I didn't say I was going with Fitbit.  Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

Hi

Fitbit support did respond, with instructions to reset the device. I
followed the instructions and it didn’t change anything. Now they have
offered to send me a replacement versa.

I am having horrible battery issues with it draining fast.  Also I am missing a lot of features that my old one had. This is a new versa that is only about a month old.

Updated the software again on my Versa and after 3 months of waiting and not being able to use the Versa for what I purchased it for, I was greatly let down. To my disappointment, it still has the same issues (not vibrating for texts which is mainly what I got the Versa for). Call notifications vibrate but still nothing at all for other notifications. I've only been continually using this in hopes of the issue getting fixed soon as promised but nothing has improved. Anyone else having text notification issues and found a solution? I'm close to dropping Fitbit all together because it's been so frustrating.

I have been having the same issue on my Android and emailed them 3+ months ago about it. I waited and updated to the most recent software update and it didn't fix anything. So I emailed them to ask if there was any progress and they kindly said the same thing they always say...

"We appreciate your time waiting for an update regarding the issue reported.

We'd like to share with you that our specialists are aware of this misbehavior, but may not be able to provide a fix in the immediate future. We'll continue to monitor the situation, but rest assured we're always working to improve our products."

So basically, 'yes we know and are fully aware that the Versa isn't working how it's supposed to be but it's not our priority now or in the immediate future (if ever).'

Sad and disappointing that fitbit doesn't seem to care that their updates screwed everything up and now the devices they are selling aren't doing the things they promise and what we purchase these for.

My Versa is about 1 year old and has worked perfectly until the most recent update about 2 days ago. Now it loses about 5 minutes every six hours or so.  When I sync the time is corrected but after the sync the Versa loses time again. Can I undo the update until the bugs are worked out?

@Patti64

On a couple of different threads regarding not receiving notifications especially texts, a user advised that it was due to this firmware update.  It has affected some android devices in particular Samsung users.  Not for the same reason as IOS users have been battling for months.  Again, Fitbit is aware of the issue but no resolution.  To me it seems like it's both the new firmware and the updated app since that's also very buggy from the posts I've seen on both the forum and the reviews for the mobile app.

I haven't and won't update my Versa to this new firmware update as well as the mobile app.  I'll let my Versa die on it's own accord and go with a different brand.  Done with Fitbit since it has clearly proven that they don't care about their users and would rather rollout firmware and app updates with enhancements without thoroughly testing and ensuring that they will perform issue free.

I've been a Fitbit loyal customer since 2013 and am also officially done after my last email discussion with them, where I was just asking for a case number -- as I didn't get one with them during my chat, where they agreed yes, everything worked prior to the Firmware update, and yes, the syncing issues were due to the firmware update and it was a known issue.

They now say it's my phone -- even though I can't sync it to ANY phone without a restart and this only started the moment I updated the firmware.

They used to have good customer service and I am shocked that they aren't being accountable this time... or even friendly -- or saying they're sorry for this experience all is happening. It's pretty awful.

I have a Versa 2. It was great until this firmware update. Now there are multiple problems:

  • Battery life is barely 1 day.
  • Heart rate accuracy is suspect.
  • Reboots regularly.
  • Touch screen stops responding regularly..

This was my third Fitbit. I won't be buying another since Fitbit customer support is a joke. They should at least roll back to the previous firmware until they can work out the bugs. Very dissapointed.

@roseluv59

Regarding the syncing issue you're having see my post where I responded to @Patti64.  This firmware is affecting syncing issues with Android users especially Samsung users.  Personally I think it's a combination of both this firmware and the new mobile app since that's also affecting syncing per the posts on the forum and the reviews on the mobile app.

Regarding the dashboard being in a different language who knows.

As @msp47 mentioned as well as others including myself,  this firmware update should have been pulled.
