Fitbit Update: 1/9/2020

Hey, Versa Smartwatches family!

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of the New Year. Before the holidays, we released this firmware out to 100%.

If you still don't see the update for Fitbit OS 4.1 (70.7.14) because it's brand new or perhaps was gifted to you for Christmas, please continue syncing the watch and make sure you have all-day sync turned on. You will soon after see the banner prompting you to update to this firmware.

Thanks for your patience and hope you continue enjoying this update!

Fitbit Update: 12/5

Hi, Versa Smartwatches family!

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1 (Firmware Version: 70.7.14).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:

    • Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30 minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.

    • On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.

    • Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.

    • Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations and if on, the always-on display on Versa 2 to preserve your battery life.

    • Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.

For more information on the new features included in Fitbit OS 4.1 check out this article. You can also check out our press release

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Versa/Versa 2 can be found here

To update Versa Lite Edition, leave on all-day sync and let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone. When the update is ready, you’ll see a notification in the Fitbit app.

If you run into any trouble updating your Versa, Versa 2 or Versa Lite, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips. If you have any issues after completing the update, when in doubt, try a restart on the watch.

How to restart your watch:

  1. For Fitbit Versa, press and hold the back and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen. For Fitbit Versa Lite/Fitbit Versa 2, hold the back(left) button for 10 seconds.
  2. Let go of the buttons.

We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

My original Blaze is going strong  and has never given me any issues. I updated to a Versa and passed the Blaze off to my husband - I have continuously had problems with this watch. Not syncing for the first 6 months, no notification of any kind. I finally got that worked out about a month ago now with this newest update I no longer have a touch screen.....Ugh!!!

It's not your phone.

No issues for me.  At first my Fitbit wouldn't find my Wi-Fi for the update, but after closing the app and opening it back up, it work.  Update was very quick.  Everything working quite well.

How much is "several minutes"? It takes an hour to download it, and it didn't finished.

Doesn't look like it. I put 32 ounces in on the watch, and the app will sync and come back with 1.1 ounces. The sad part is that this feature worked before the update. I like not having to use my phone for this stuff.

Hie everyone! I'm sorry for the late response. However, I'm sorry to hear about the issues you've experienced with your Versa watches and we appreciate your feedback and comments since this helps us to keep improving.

For the Fitbit watches that are not turning on, please make sure that they are fully charged. If they are, please let me know if your watches vibrate when you plug them on the charger. If they don't vibrate, please try the troubleshooting steps that are listed in this help article. This article may contain steps that you already tried but you can skip them and proceed with the rest. Finally, charge your watches for 2-3 hours and see if they come back to life.

If the firmware update doesn't get completed, please follow the steps described in this help article. Finally, run the update again and see if the update finishes properly.

For the users that are experiencing notifications issues, please let me know what is the brand and model of your phones. In the meantime, please follow the workaround described in this help page and see if the issue gets fixed.

In case your Versa screen is not working properly, please select clock faces developed by Fitbit and see if the issue gets fixed. In case the problem persists, restart them as advised in this help article.

I really appreciate your patience and time with this.

I'll be around in order to follow up and assist you accordingly.

I have the notifications issue (they no longer work at all) and I have a Samsung S9plus with a Versa watch (original versa). It also takes a long time to sync if its able to at all.

My versa lite is just not updating. It keeps saying update failed and keeps restarting and the installation keeps happening over and over and then midway it'll say finding device. I'm using Android 10 on OnePlus 7T.

A month back I started having issues with not recieving notifications and syncing. But that was never a problem on Blaze. But now I'm stuck with this watch which won't even work. Is there any possible fix? Or my money's all gone to waste :c

I've had so much trouble with my Versa since this update. It rarely will sync, the watch face freezes (won't swipe). I've tried everything I could find to fix the issue - restarted the watch, disconnected and reconnected Bluetooth, disconnected and reconnected my wifi, updated the FitBit app, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, tried doing a factory reset on the Versa. Nothing seems to work. Last night after disconnecting and reconnecting the wifi and doing a factory reset, it seemed to be working again - it was syncing every few minutes, so I thought the problem was solved. Then, this morning, it stopped syncing and the watch face won't swipe. It's making me crazy. I've had the Versa since August and it's worked fine until this update. I do have an older phone, so I'm not sure if it's the phone or the watch. Any advice?? Customer service basically just told me to get a new phone! (are they gonna pay for it??)

Really appreciate fixing the data gap that I had. There were days where I had 90+ gaps of over 1 minute and averaging 1.5 minutes. Did notice that any button no longer restarts Versa after a shutdown. Will there ever be an option to measure heart rate every 1, 2 or 3 seconds instead of 5, 10 or 15 seconds as it used to do last year?

They are sketchy for me as well.  Sometimes I get them sometimes I don't.

My Versa Classic wasn't working for a while (not syncing its data), but I did a factory reset which earned me a "data not cleared" error which wasn't going away even after several restarts.  So I tried pairing it to my account anyway and found out the error was removed.  It wasn't pairing well with my phone, but I was able to pair it with my computer and reinstall the update.  It seems to be working properly now.  It's syncing its data.  I'm going to do a more thorough test tomorrow though.  Here's hoping.

[update]  the windows 10 fitbit app that I have is a little out of date, so my fitbit doesn't have the latest firmware update, which suits me.  there's no telling what the latest firmware update will bork next

If I take my fitbit off and turn it off it tells me it is dead even if it had 100% when I shut it off.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your feedback regarding this last Fitbit OS update available for all Fitbit Smartwatches. There are many questions regarding new features I'm seeing asked repeatedly, so I want to break them down and respond in bullet points.

Updating:

  • If you have any issues after completing the update, when in doubt, try a restart on the watch.
  • Plug your watches into the charger if possible, before you initiate the update. The watch will use up the battery for this update and this way you are sure to not have any issues with the battery life. If the battery is too low, you'll be forced to plugin before updating.
  • Update the Fitbit app to the latest version for your iOS or Android device.
  • The new Fitbit OS is still rolling out to all our smartwatch users. If you don't see a banner prompting you to update yet, you will receive one soon.
  • You cannot revert to an older firmware. Once you've updated to Fitbit OS 4.1, you must stay on this version.

iOS: Notifications

  • If you're not receiving your text notifications/other notifications and you're on iOS 13, we have an updated thread posted with a breakdown of steps and instructions to get them back. Please visit that thread and take a look!

Versa Lite:

  • If you own a Versa Lite and are having trouble updating, do not perform a factory reset. Leave on all-day sync and let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone. When the update is ready, you’ll see a banner in the Fitbit app.

Agenda App:

  • To enable the app on your watch, you must go to the Fitbit app > Account >Versa >Apps  >Agenda. Go to Permissions and enable all the toggles ON. If you go to Settings, you'll see the default calendar for your phone. Read more in this article: How do I set up and troubleshoot apps on my Fitbit device?
