Fitbit Update: 1/9/2020

Hey, Versa Smartwatches family!

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of the New Year. Before the holidays, we released this firmware out to 100%.

If you still don't see the update for Fitbit OS 4.1 (70.7.14) because it's brand new or perhaps was gifted to you for Christmas, please continue syncing the watch and make sure you have all-day sync turned on. You will soon after see the banner prompting you to update to this firmware.

Thanks for your patience and hope you continue enjoying this update!

Fitbit Update: 12/5

Hi, Versa Smartwatches family!

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1 (Firmware Version: 70.7.14).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:

    • Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30 minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.

    • On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.

    • Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.

    • Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations and if on, the always-on display on Versa 2 to preserve your battery life.

    • Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.

For more information on the new features included in Fitbit OS 4.1 check out this article. You can also check out our press release

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Versa/Versa 2 can be found here

To update Versa Lite Edition, leave on all-day sync and let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone. When the update is ready, you’ll see a notification in the Fitbit app.

If you run into any trouble updating your Versa, Versa 2 or Versa Lite, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips. If you have any issues after completing the update, when in doubt, try a restart on the watch.

How to restart your watch:

  1. For Fitbit Versa, press and hold the back and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen. For Fitbit Versa Lite/Fitbit Versa 2, hold the back(left) button for 10 seconds.
  2. Let go of the buttons.

We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

Just an additional note. When you set up the agenda app, do t tap on the gear icon, tap on the Agenda icon itself, here you will see the permissions and settings options. Tap permissions and select all. Settings allows some other color options etc but permissions is what you need to connect your calendar.

Me neither.. I’ve tried everything now for 2 days and nothing is working. I will get it to sync but then 2 hours later back to square one

Hi FatherRay, thanks for your help. All permissions are enabled for Agenda, but there is still no sign of any calendars. Is there some way to set a default calendar app that I'm missing?

Best Answer

Occasionalky when updating to a newer version, some permissions get turned off. Try tapping on your Versa logo and check to assure that your messaging app didnt get changed or unchecked. I have found the occasional need to reset previously set permissions.

Best Answer

D'oh, it always comes down to "Did you turn it off and back on", doesn't it?

After toggling the Agenda permissions off and then turning them back on, calendar syncing works! And it only took 3 years from acquiring Pebble to get calendars back.

From your main app page, tap on the VERSA icon, go to notifications and check that your calendar app is set to the default.

Verse 2 now on start loop after trying to update

Best Answer

Same issue for me for the past 2 days. It hasn’t done a complete sync in days..I’m not sure what to do 😞

I'm so sick of the Fitbit, I bought a new phone because customer service said that mine was incompatible. My Versa was messed up for 6 months, exchanged it for a Versa 2 and that is not working consistently. I regret being a Fitbit customer and I will eventually convert to Apple products. My son never has the kind of frustration that I experience. I'm so disappointed.

I'm having the same issue.

I really like the new clock face switcher and the smart wake feature.

Don’t like the new ”excercise menu improvements” though. Improvements? The nice background pictures are now gone, the text is much smaller, and the new colours (orange on black) makes it much harder to read. Oh well.

@Walkman55 fair points, but at least with the added benefit of having all 20 shortcuts now on the device. I'll happily give up the pretty pictures for improved usability.

Here the same problem after the update.
My Versa won’t start up at all. Battery was also fully charged.

@MB010175 I heard that one user put their Ionic (which was suffering a similar issue) onto charge for a while and managed to resurrect it. Perhaps you can try that and see if it helps your Versa?

Hello.

Thank you for this quick response.
On the forum someone wrote the same issue.
He got the advise to push the left en bottom right button for 10 seconds.
This worked so my problem is solved.

@itvshdny12345b As the opening post (here) says, this is a progressive rollout. So initially the update will only be rolling out to a certain number of users.

I had to do a factory reset yesterday to get mine working again and then it stopped again at 2:51am and is froze/dead yet again. I am now on here again today searching for answers. My Versa was charged at 93% and is now showing 1%. Maybe that means the update went through again as I saw other threads how the update drained their fitbits. Gotta be an easier way for this to be done. I have lost a lot of steps already this morning.

I also did a couple of factory resets, but it seems that it reloads the same bad update (70.714), and my fitbit while running fine in the charging dock during re-setup, started rebooting every minute or so after removing it from the charge dock. I chatted with support and they are sending a replacement, but I'll lose all tracking for 3-4 days until the replacement arrives... (heavy sigh)
