Fitbit Update: 1/9/2020

Hey, Versa Smartwatches family!

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of the New Year. Before the holidays, we released this firmware out to 100%.

If you still don't see the update for Fitbit OS 4.1 (70.7.14) because it's brand new or perhaps was gifted to you for Christmas, please continue syncing the watch and make sure you have all-day sync turned on. You will soon after see the banner prompting you to update to this firmware.

Thanks for your patience and hope you continue enjoying this update!

Fitbit Update: 12/5

Hi, Versa Smartwatches family!

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1 (Firmware Version: 70.7.14).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:

    • Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30 minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.

    • On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.

    • Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.

    • Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations and if on, the always-on display on Versa 2 to preserve your battery life.

    • Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.

For more information on the new features included in Fitbit OS 4.1 check out this article. You can also check out our press release

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Versa/Versa 2 can be found here

To update Versa Lite Edition, leave on all-day sync and let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone. When the update is ready, you’ll see a notification in the Fitbit app.

If you run into any trouble updating your Versa, Versa 2 or Versa Lite, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips. If you have any issues after completing the update, when in doubt, try a restart on the watch.

How to restart your watch:

  1. For Fitbit Versa, press and hold the back and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen. For Fitbit Versa Lite/Fitbit Versa 2, hold the back(left) button for 10 seconds.
  2. Let go of the buttons.

We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

Firmware 4.02 took a month to get to all users, so I guess a month?

Glad to see some of the user feedback about the original OS4 rollout being implemented!

Quick switching for Clock faces, customising the Versa2 side button, enabling the Smart Wake alarm feature, fixing several of the UI mistakes.

I love the added Agenda app and it works very well, and the new designs for the System apps also feel like an upgrade to me!

Still, I'm hoping eventually the Voice Reply option will be hidden from notifications when disabled, so we can see all of our quick replies again. And the AOD function had better become available for all devs soon, before the hype for this feature is gone.

Please help. I have been experiencing battery life of about 4 full days up until the new update. I updated my Versa on Thursday evening to the newest OS.. My battery was full when I finished that update. My battery went down to 40% throughout the course of 1 day.

Last night I charged my Versa since I was at 40%. I took the Versa off of the charging station and went to sleep at 11:30pm. Full battery. I just woke up at 8:45 am and it is down to 22%.

I did not make a single change to any of my settings after the update happened but this is not acceptable.

Please help.

I'm in the same boat. Changed where I was charging, in case it was an electrical issue, changed charging bricks and still no fitbit.

Update...  Read further down and saw where you talked to tech support and fixed it. Mine fixed also.

Thanks - and apologizes for not reading further!

If all turns black after the update I suggest restarting your Versa Lite by pressing and holding the button for 10 seconds (until you see the fitbit logo). For the Fitbit Versa it's: hold the left and lower right button together until you see the fitbit logo.

For the full explenation for a reset here is a link to the help section: How do I restart my Fitbit device?

I keep restarting and all I can see is the Fitbit logo no matter how many times I restart it. I can't get into settings because I can't get the Fitbit to boot or finish updating.

If you don't update to the latest version firmware, how long would it take for Fitbit to auto update you?

My Versa is working finally and I don't want to mess it up. After reading the comments, I would prefer not to update.

@topspin You won't be auto updated. You will have a banner at the top of the fitbit app but you would have to press update, you may however get annoyed with the persistent banner though.

As I haven't received any reply from the Fitbit "Gurus" an after reading a lot of controversial opinions, some successful stories and some bad experiences, I felt I have to try, so I decided to go and do the update.

I have to say that I haven't had any inconvenience and the update ran smoothly and so the results, all functions of my Versa are working good and I hope they'll continue as now.

My Versa 2 updated smoothly and am very happy with the new features.

So now Fitbit it’s inwards and upwards.

- The o2 Apnea feature is long awaited

- Need to have the option to turn off notifications appearing when Versa is taken off or screen locked

- enhanced heart monitoring features to catch up with the competition. Also perhaps fall and noise warning notifications.
- dark theme in iOS app
- a decent charger for Versa 2!!

- fix the crummy mediations that stop when the phone screen goes to sleep!

I needed to uninstall, then reinstall the application to be prompted for all the permissions the Agenda app requires. Seems like the onboarding for that app could be a bit smoother, but that should help you get it running.

Well I guess I should have read this forum first. Did my update today and all went well. Added a couple of watch faces and had one app that needed an update. All looked good. Note my Versa (first version) had a full charge before I started.

As I tend to do after any major update I shutdown my versa to restart it and also restarted my phone. Now my Versa is completely dead. Have held the power button up to a minute. Put it back on the charger and nothing. I'll leave there for a while and see what happens

Any tips for getting an unresponsive Versa running? I'll chat with support later after work.

I previously reported my unpleasant experience with customer (no) support.  After a supposedly successful application update, the watchface switcher hung up the watch and besides that function not working, my screen became very laggy.  When I called the agent was more interested in selling me a new versa at a supposedly discount price then getting to the root of the problem that was affecting many users.  I gave up on them as useless, and after multiple restarts, i finally bit the bullet and did the reset to factory settings.  It seemed to fix the watch but would not let me change any watch faces.  I then got another software update available notice which i applied with much trepidation.   I kept getting a message that it couldn't connect, but miraculously the new app update went away and now everything works as it should including all my previously loaded apps returned.  Go figure, but at least i am back in business.  I was 5 minutes away from leaving fitbit forever.  They need to get their customer support and software development act together.  Hopefully google c as n straighten them out.
