Update: This has now released to 100%

We’re excited to announce that a firmware update for Versa, Versa 2, and Versa Lite will be available soon!  Some of you may already have this update available - if you installed it, let us know what you think!

If you don’t see the update yet, that’s expected. Check the Fitbit app in a few days, and you’ll see a message when you can install the update. We expect everyone to receive the update in the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience while we get this update to all of our customers.

Did you know that we gradually release our updates? We do this to make sure everything is working just right for you. Sometimes we find an issue and it might take a little longer than expected for everyone to get the update. While you might see suggestions on how to “force” an update, we ask that you don’t try any of these workarounds. Most of the time the update won’t be available and you can lose data or encounter other difficulties. The best way to get the update is to be patient and wait for the update banner to appear in the Fitbit app.

I have read and heard so many stories of friends and family, who have had their fitbit devices killed by this update. Are you doing something about it - like pulling back the firmware update and doing a proper testing, before sending it out again? I have refrained from updating my Versa2, since it works absolutely fine, so I don't need any bug fixes. But can I completely avoid updating my Versa2? And how do I get rid of the annoying pop up reminding me of the "update from hell"?

Best Answer

Wondering if you have a plan to remedy all the problems that this update has caused your customers. My Versa was working fine until this update and now the battery runs out in less than a day.

Tried the so called fix multiple times. DID NOT WORK!!!!

I tried to avoid this @$&%^!#  update as long as possible, but somehow it came through anyhow.  Still collects steps, etc. all right but I can longer sync, after following all the suggestions given by customer "service".   I could live with that, but the **ahem** watch is losing time.  Right now it is almost 2 hours behind.  USELESS!

And I see that I'm in good company.

Congratulations!  With this latest update, you have killed thousands of devices.

I , for one, will never buy another Fitbit again.

Way to go!

After the update, I am now getting low battery warnings basically every day without designating exercise tracking the last couple days. I already had to charge often, but this is much worse since the update.

Since this update, my heart rate sensor is having issues even turning on. There is no green light on at all and my heart is consistently not reading. When I randomly get it working, it stops working after a couple hours. I don't know what is going on and spoke to someone with support and they couldn't give me an answer. Luckily, everything else still works, but I would really like an accurate reading for my heart rate. I've done reset and factory reset, neither which have worked.

Updated my Versa 2 last night and gutted to find I’ve lost all my Active Minutes, not just this week but previous weeks too. I’ve been working so hard to build them up. Wish I hadn’t updated 😕

Best Answer

The 4.2.2 update messed up the heart rate when moving on the Versa, it's even worse than the Sense.

If you have 72.1.9 on your watch and it's working reasonably, don't install any further updates in the hope of an improvement,

Unless Fitbit say specifically what has changed and you need that, avoid any upgrade in case it ruins your watch no longer under warranty, even from a fault due to an upgrade.

I got my Versa 2 on 28th June this year, it lasted just one month before it stopped working. Fitbit replaced it, it took a week to be posted so I lost that week’s data tracking. I’ve had the replacement Versa2 less than a week and now this!

The Fitbit journey has not been very impressive so far I must say! In fact dreadful! 😕

Sad to say but my journey with Fitbit is over, thry broke my Fitbit versa with an update they created, and then washed there hands of the issue. It clearly is their fault, if I go to a gas station and the attendant pump a tank of diesel into my petrol car. The attendant is clearly at fault, Fitbit pushed me to install the 4.2.2 update with the dreaded pip up banner, and then suggest it's not there fault when it kills your Versa.

So Ive Got A Real Monitoring Instrument Now!
Go G3 (Go Geta Garmin)
And tell everyone who asks the Fitbit doesnt support it's customers. Shame on Fitbit and it's parent company Google.

The Fitbit mods will delete this comment like all the others that portray Fitbit on a negative light. Give Garmin customer services a call, maybe they'll offer you a small concession to jump ship. I got my Venu SQ of Amazon for £115 so adios Fitbit and you Versa killing update.

That’s really awful. I’ll be decidedly unhappy (to say the least!) if this issue isn’t sorted when I’ve had the device less than two months!

I wish I’d gone with Garmin now. It’s my son’s birthday next week, he wants a tracker and this has made the decision about which one very easy!

I updated my Fitbit with this update and now I have a screen of broken characters and lines and cannot reset. I’ve tried updating watch, phone and still nothing. Please advise how to fix this issue. Thanks

Sad to say unless your Fitbit is in warranty, then your unlikely to get any joy. If ypu Versa is out of warranty Fitbit will offer you a 35% discount on a new product. I chose to pass on that offer and go with someone else. You'd think as a simple fault finding exercise they'd reach out to affected customers, a d ask them to send them examples of their non-working Fitbits, so that they could understand what went wrong. No such request has been made, clearly they don't care what went wrong or the customers it affected.

I have the original Versa, bought back in 2018.  I'm having the rapid battery drain issues after the latest firmware update.

I've tried several ways to update the firmware.  I'm doing the update via hard reset.

I've observed that when I updated just with Bluetooth (i.e. skip the wifi password step), battery drain issues becomes better.  But not to the point of before the update.  Takes lot longer ~30 min. to do the update via Bluetooth only.  Everything Else seems to be OK.

FYI

@HiroshiC  - Try turning off Bluetooth on the phone and restart the watch - There was a problem with the Fitbit App causing the drain and it may be this causing your problem.

How about make it so the **ahem** versa 2 thing works? Every time I try to sync my fitbit it takes forever. Updating is horrendous: Takes 5 minutes solid searching for wifi, tells me it can't find wifi even though my phone is on the freaking wifi. If you press try again it freezes and the app goes blank grey screen once you click the x on the frozen

So, having received my replacement Fitbit Versa 2 one week ago after my first one lasted just 33 days before crashing, I performed the update as prompted and immediately lost all my active zone data. Contacted support who made me perform a factory reset. I can no longer pair the device with my phone so now I have a second entirely defunct device in less than 2 months. I will never purchase a Fitbit again! Dreadful hardware, dreadful service!

I'm so glad I decided to skip the update and come here first. It better not push this down. I love my Versa.

After working w/support, I took the 35% off deal, got me a Versa 3...

I've had it for 3 days.   Working great!

Thankfully here in the UK consumer rights kick in and because I have now had two devices fail on me in 6 weeks (including one week whilst I had no device as I was waiting for a replacement!), I am entitled to my money back. I am sad because the Versa 2 was a gift from my children and when it was working and tracking it was perfect for my purposes. Unfortunately losing my data has made me lose faith in Fitbit now so I am going to jump ship and go for another brand!
