So it seems that even if your bank is supported in another country, you can only use the supported banks for your own country.
e.g. I am in UK - according to https://www.fitbit.com/fitbit-pay/banks
The supported banks are:
Danske Bank (Mastercard)
Starling Bank (Mastercard)
However under "Spain" Santander Bank (Mastercard) IS supported.
Confirmed with following chat to support:
Ron (4/3/2018, 2:12:45 PM): Hi Ross, My name is Ron. How can I help you?

As far as I know, the standard Versa in the UK (European version) also supports fitbit pay. The only difference with the premium version here is the special edition fabric bands.
So if you are only buying the special edition only for Fitbit pay, you may wish to reconsider your options to save yourself some money.

cheers for the advice, a little late as I already have it, just letting people know if it was their deciding factor to get the more expensive version

Once again very typical: No bank from Germany supports wireless payment. The Germans are a people of cash freaks. Too bad, I say as a German.

The UK banks list currently shows Danske bank but apparently you have to be resident in Northern Ireland and Starling bank only has a debit card facility so fitbit pay very little use in the UK at the moment.

So Bank of America is on the list for the US - does this mean it will work with my Visa through Bank of America for credit card purchases. I'm new to this contactless paying option. (getting Versa on Monday)

Starling works fine, I've been using it since I got my Versa and have been very happy with how it works.
