Fitbit Versa 2 won't setup with Pixel 3a XL

Just bought my Versa 2 tonight, got it home and tried to set it up but I am stuck.  My fitbit app version is 3.2.  I'm running Android 9 on my Google Pixel 3a.  I click on "+ set up a device," then select the Versa 2.  It take me to a screen where it displays an image of the Versa 2 and at the bottom it says "Set Up Your Fitbit Versa 2."  When I click on that, the image of the versa 2 flashes for a second and then it takes me back to the account page.  I can't seem to get it to actually setup.  It just keeps kicking me back into the account page.

I appreciate your responses, everyone.  I ended up flashing android 10 to my pixel 3a (manually loading the update).  After my phone updated it enabled a lot of other apps to update as well, including my fitbit app.  Now with Android 10 running I am all set up.  Hooray!

Correction to the above post, in the body of my post I state I have a pixel 3a.  I in fact have a Pixel 3a XL, if that matters.

@AndyWisco update your Fitbit mobile app to the latest version 3.6. Also, just in case make sure Versa is not in the paired devices list in your phone settings. If it's there, remove it, reboot your phone and versa by pressing and holding the back button until screen turns black. Try to set up again.
