Fitbit Versa 3 is the most unreliable piece of gear I've ever owned

I bought a Fitbit Versa 3 about 14 months ago, primarily to make it easier to track my heart rate during bike rides.  But that Main reason I bought it is the feature that is the Most Unreliable.  I'm a 69 year old male and have owned lots of electronic gear, and this is the most unreliable piece of gear I've ever owned.   I should have returned it within the first 30 days, but I figured I'd give it time in case I wasn't wearing it right, or something.  However, wearing it exactly as recommended, snug, but not too tight, making sure it has a pretty good charge, and that the underside of the watch is clean, and my wrist is clean. doesn't help.  During a 45 to 60 minute bike ride, it drops down to 60 or 70 BPM at least twice, sometimes three times.  And it's Not because I'm sweating a lot.  When I ride on cool evenings my wrist doesn't get sweaty, but it still fails frequently.  When it DOES work, it's also usually about 6 or 8 beats low.  I use the time on the watch any my finger on my pulse on my neck and count for 15 seconds, and multiply by 4.  And believe me, I KNOW how to take my own pulse.  But when it's not dropping to 60 or 70 BPM, it still reads about 6 or 8 low.  However, it DOES track my resting heart rate correctly.   It's VERY poor at tracking my sleep, also.   The ONLY thing I can rely on with this watch is the time of day and date, my resting heart rate, and the days and time that I exercise.  I honestly don't know why I keep wearing it, except that I use it for the time of day, to track the days/time frame that I exercise, and my resting heart rate.  When I REALLY wish I could rely on it to tell me if my heart rate is getting too high during exercise, I CAN'T Rely on it for that.
