Fitbit Versa display went black after latest firmware update (July 2020)

The device is communicating correctly with the iphone app, the green led is flashing on the back of the watch, the device reboots after a factory reset and buzzes but still no display. Changed the clockface still no display. Charged using varies methods no display. Allowed device battery to flatten then recharged and rebooted. Still no display. Worryingly I have spoken with my daughter and hers has done the same after the update with exactly the same problem. I have noted that there are also many other folk reporting the same problem. My device is 19 months old, hers is just outside the warranty period. The firmware as far as booting and communication with the ipad seems fine, the display was initially ok after the update but then suddenly went black with no reset method getting the device to function correctly.  It is the second time this has happened, fortunately the last time a reset worked. I do not want another one as I now cannot trust them and after looking at other peoples feedback it looks as though you only get an offer of 25% off a new one. Pretty annoying, I had many awards etc completed.Time for an Apple Watch 3 which has a similar price I think and start again.

I’m having the same issue too. I woke up this morning and my watch face was black. I thought it was dead so I went to charge it. I looked up how to reboot it but it won’t even let me click on any settings. It won’t sync to the app and it won’t let me change the clock faces. I hope this gets figured out soon, otherwise I’m going to make the switch to an Apple Watch!

I'm having the same issue. After leaving mine on the charger for a while I was able to access the Settings menu and do a Factory Reset. Then it worked fine for about six hours and the screen went black again. This latest firmware update really screwed things up and I'm not happy about it. I don't want a discount to buy a new one, I want them to release an update to fix this because my Versa worked just fine before this and I've had it for over two years.

I am wondering since the Versa still communicates with the an iphone even if the display is black whether a role back or remote fix can be tried using the iphone app. Hopefully if enough people are reporting this, some swift action will be taken.

My Versa 2 just went totally blank about 30 minutes ago; totally unresponsive.  It has a full charge and was tracking, then I noticed the heartrate monitor stopped and the watchface went black.   It is not syncing with my iPhone; the phone keeps searching for my Versa.  I have tried a hard reset, placing it on the charger, etc. but still NOTHING.   I am so frustrated right now.

after the update, mine has gone black as well. I cant turn it on or get to the settings to do a factory reset. Less than a year old. Fitbit should undo whatever they did or replace my watch. If anyone knows a solution please let me know.

I recently upgraded from a charge 3 to Versa watch about nine months ago. After the recent update, mine started randomly vibrating and the screen was going blank. Also at times, it will completely shutdown altogether. I had a lot issues with the charge 3 and it’s firmware update (hint the upgrade). I’m about ready to abandon ship with Fitbit altogether, if they can’t fix the current issue with the watches.

Me too! My Versa Lite was just fine until.last week now display is totally dark. Last synch, last screen display was 7/05/2020. I have charged it, attempted reset, read through customer support. I have been a faithful user for many years, many products. Very frustrated, no time for this!

I’ve been using Fitbit for many years now as well. This malfunctioning crud with their watches is a total bs. After being around as a company for 9 years. You would think that they would this kinda stuff under control, or at least completely solved by this time. This is my second watch out of three is acting up. I only had this one for about nine months. What’s even worse, you can’t get ahold of anyone on the weekends at the 1-800 number. You have wait until Monday am, which is dumb in my opinion.

Just as an update and to be fair to Fitbit support.

I managed to sort a real time communication whilst logged on to the Fitbit user page following a link, typing with all of my information to hand including user name serial number of the device and where I purchased it from. The help desk operator took me through the full boot up procedures once more but still no display. I am not sure whether I had an extended warranty as part of the purchase offer when I bought it but my device fortunately is covered under warranty and immediately an email was sent to allow me to order a new replacement which took no time to submit. I hope the replacement will last.
