Fitbit Versa - kicking laps when swimming not counted

Hi there, I've just bought my Versa and gave it a go in the pool this morning.  It tracked my 1.5km as 1.2km; and the only thing I could think of was that I did about 300m with a kickboard (so no arm movements).

Would I be correct in thinking that the Versa only counts swimming as arm movement, not body movement?

Thank you!

@MumRunner If you don’t move your arms, your Versa will think you’re not moving 🙂

Yes, I agree with @SunsetRunner. It seems as if it tracked the actual swim part of your swim pretry accurately which is great ☺

Umm...my Versa counted only 1 out of every 3 swimming laps.  I'm curious as to its algorithm.  I take from 8-13 stokes/25 yrds depending upon stroke and how tired I am.  I don't expect it to count kicking, but i was rather taken by surprise by its failure to recognize swum laps.

I actually thought about purchasing an ankle bracelet and tying my watch to my ankle so that I can continue counting
