Fitbit Versa not able to setup after factory reset, won't connect via BT

I have the Versa for about a year now, had a couple of BT connection issues around the new years eve, but managed to fix these.

Two days ago in the evening my Versa started behaving strangely, it acted like I'd always try to pull down the notifications area, all the while everytime it vibrated shortly when the pull down area started to show up. I restarted it a couple of times, but strange behaviour remained, so I did a factory reset. I removed the connected device in the FitBit app, and tried to connect the Versa as a new device.

Within the setup my phone, a OnePlus 5, wasn't able to connect via Bluetooth any more. I uninstalled the app, removed the data, restarted the phone, switched from beta to stable channel, tried enabling all access triggers, but it won't connect regardless of whatever I try.

I've read all kinds of forum entries but nothing helped. I even installed the Fitbit app on my Mac but the app told me the Versa can only be setup with a mobile phone.

I'm desperately searching for help here, not yet willing to return and get a refund, so please, tell me what I can try to connect it to my phone again.

Are you using the Fitbit app to setup the Versa. You mentioned not being able to do this through the phones bluetooth, this is impossible for the user to do.

Have you removed the Versa from the phones BT, so that the Fitbit app may be able to see it?

Yeah, of course I used the app to set it up. The watch points that out in every language BTW 😉 . The (previous) usual behavior always had been that the watch would have been found even though it might have taken a couple of tries, but after these it always had worked.

Like I said, I removed (i.e. unpaired) the watch from list of bluetooth devices. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and then it asked for permission to use BT which I allowed. Still it couldn't find the watch.

I must admit that I've never done a factory reset before...
