Fitbit Versa recording massive amounts of steps while charging

On at least three occasions, while on the charger, my Versa has recorded insane amounts of steps: one time counting over 52,000. Is there any way to edit those, and is this a fixable problem?

Is the Fitbit near a vibration source like a fan, dehumidifier, or even a computer CPU? It can see the vibration as steps and add false steps.

You can enter a driving record to get rid of them

Yes, each time this occurred I have charged it by plugging it into my PC gaming computer and resting the Versa in its charging cradle on top of the computer tower.

I tried entering a driving record to negate steps. For example, on 5/12/18, I entered 23 hrs, 59 mins of driving to try to negate all the steps for that day, but all it did was reduce the number of steps from 52,000 to about 46,000. What did I do wrong?
