Fitbit app (v 2.74.2) consuming too much battery on Android device.

Like title suggests, I am currently running the latest version of Fitbit (v 2.74.2) on my Android device. This was after the battery/data fiasco Android users suffered a couple of weeks ago and Fitbit claims this version fixed that issue. I am still seeing the app take up to 88% of my battery and I even had to charge my phone overnight because I discovered it had gone from 30% (at 11pm) to 3% at 5am.

Anyone else who uses Android phones having this issue as well? I'm getting tired of troubleshooting with Fitbit. I might just revert back to a previous version so I don't have to deal with this inconsistency.

No issues here, 1% usage over 7.5hrs. Have you tried clearing the fitbit app's cache?

Hello @tofuuu630, Glad to see you in the Fitbit Community!

I understand your situation. I am a fellow Android user. I had this issue. So what you will have to do to fix this issue is delete the Fitbit app, then re-download it. If thats not the route you would like to go, go into the Google Play Store, and look for Updates, and you should see the Fitbit app, and then hit update and then it should be fixed!

I believe it was 3 updates ago that fixed this issue .Maybe 4 .I've had two app updates in less than 5 days.

@Israelarreola11 they always give very generic and answers that aren't really helpful though =/

So I uninstalled it and reinstalled like you suggested and it has been more than 12 hours and Fitbit has been only using up to 2% battery so it is normal. Thank you for your help!

Hi @Israelarreola11,

I spoke too soon. After another day of monitoring, the Fitbit app has once again jumped up to using the most battery among my apps (but considerably less % at 19%). I already had all day sync turned off months ago, and I only open the app a few times a day to sync. But it is still eating up my battery.

@N8teGee even if I have reinstalled the app, I don't think I still need to clear cache right?

So glad it isn't just me. My android device keeps notifying me that fitbit is draining my battery. Feel like I'm forever charging my phone and worrying that my phone will die during my 5k training sessions! Hope this issue is fixed soon.

You shouldn't need to seeing as you did the reinstall, although there isn't any harm in doing it. I think it's unlikely that will solve the issue at this point though.

Have you tried going into settings - Apps & notifications - App info - Fitbit app - battery, and then toggle background activity to off?

Just a note about notifications, if they are enabled the app will always be running in the background.

@tofuuu630 I notice from your signature that you are using a beta version of Android (Android P DP4). Perhaps this is the cause of your issue, I'm guessing the fitbit app doesn't officially support Android P yet.

@N8teGee Hmm I was thinking that on July 2nd when Fitbit released the version that caused all the data/battery issues because they released it on the same day the developer preview 4 was released. Everything was fine on developer preview 3.

Hello everyone, I hope you're having a great day! It's great to see you around @Rich_Laue and @N8teGee, thanks for all your help. Smiley Happy

I appreciate you have brought this to my attention, please note that the issue where the Fitbit app was consuming a big portion of the battery on Android devices has been resolved in a previous version of the app as @N8teGee mentioned.

@tofuuu630, please note that the Fitbit app does not officially support any unreleased operating systems, which might be the cause some features in the app to not work as expected such as the issue with the battery. I appreciate you have reported this and once this version of Android gets properly released, be sure our team will also release a compatible version of the app.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, I hope you have a great day, if there's anything else I can do for you in the meantime, please feel free to reply.
