Fitbit versa elliptical on watch log

I have a new fitbit versa. I know that it will automatically pick up that you are an elliptical or a run and the results will display on my phone app. I didn't press the elliptical exercise workout on the watch as I though it would automatically recognise what I was on. There are no exercise details on my phone dispaly but there is via the app. Do I need to start the relevant exercise app on my watch every time I do it or should it automatically update via my app? It would make more sense if the app and the watch synced this information as the watch automatically can pick up a run or an elliptical

Im not 100% clear on what you are asking, but I'll do my best to answer 😁

Yes, the Versa should pick up run and elliptical automatically, but with elliptical in particular there often seem to be some recognition issues, so if it is not picking it up automatically you would be best to start it using the exercise shortcuts.

If you allow the watch to auto recognise you wont get any details on the actual Versa, but have to wait until you sync to your app on your phone to see any stats. If you use the shortcuts you will get some of the stats on the watch. I use the shortcut for my swims and interval walks, but not my bike rides because it suits me that way and I DO want to see my stats on my swims to keep a lap count but dont feel the need to with bike.

If I have kind of missed your question, explain a bit more what you want to know and I'll try to answer!

Thank you. There is no problem with it recognising the elliptical automatically and seeing the details on the app. I had hoped that it would then send the data to the watch so I could see it. You have answered my question in that I need to press the shortcut exercise button on my watch when i start a run or go on the elliptical if I want to see the stats on my watch. Shame that it doesn't do that automatically as it obviously picks the info up to send it to the app.

Yes I DO agree that it would be nice if it did that. I guess I am kind of used to it now, but I did find it annoying at first
