GPS and heart rate not working properly-Versa 2

Just a quick question....my Versa2 is doing random things with the heart rate, and logging active minutes.  Some days when I put on the "walk" tracking function, it will tell me I have a cardio level heart rate as soon as I begin walking.  Other days, the watch shows fat-burning or NO heart rate even though I know I'm going at a good pace.  I've searched this topic and done the recommended turn heart rate off/back on and then restart, so we'll see if that fixes the problem.  I'm also wondering if the Versa2 logs mileage if there's no GPS signal available?  I live in an area with spotty coverage and it seems some days the same walking route can have different results.
