I want to track my activity and gps location while I run without the use of my phone, but I see that is not possible. You need your phone next to you in order to get the  gps feature.

That's right. The Ionic has a GPS built into it so you don't need to take your phone with you but the versa doesn't have GPS. Instead it makes use of the GPS on your phone so you need to take your phone with you. See the following help file for more information: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1874/
