GPS not connecting to my Versa 2

I have recently transitioned from my old Blaze to a Versa 2 that I received for Christmas. The Blaze worked wonderfully, accurately mapping all of my runs and bike rides, including my mountain biking routes here in the Colorado Rockies. In short, I cannot think of a time in which my blaze recorded inaccurately unless it was due to my own error. I received the Versa 2, removed the Blaze from the profile, and went through the connecting instructions to set up the new FitBit. It is recording everything as hoped, however it struggles to connect to GPS and seems to often disconnect from the phone. It has yet to record a single bike ride or run accurately, and often I can't use it for certain tasks, like fnding my phone, as it says that it is disconnected. I have done resets of both the phone and the FitBit per instructions on the forum, and have checked to make sure that it is always connected via bluetooth and always has permission for location services. In short, nothing was changed on the phone when I turned off the Blaze and then connected the Versa 2. I am using an IPhone 6 that has undergone its most recent updates.

Hi there, @ElMapache. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the issue with your Versa 2. I understand where your concern is coming from.

Fitbit devices use the formula below to calculate distance. Your stride length is determined by your height and sex. Steps x Stride Length = Distance Traveled

Please note when you track an activity with GPS, your device calculates your distance using GPS data rather than steps. If you begin moving before you get a GPS signal, your device calculates distance using your steps until GPS connects.

To update your stride length, track a run with GPS or measure your stride length manually. For more information, see: Can I change my stride length in my Fitbit account?

For more information about GPS, see: How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device?

In addition, please verify the following requirements; then try the troubleshooting steps if necessary:

  • Make sure that you have a clear view of the sky when you start the exercise. Environmental factors, including tall buildings, dense forest, steep hills, and even thick cloud cover, can interfere with your phone’s ability to connect to GPS satellites. If the signal is blocked—either because you're indoors, underground, or due to another reason—GPS won't work.
  • Confirm that Bluetooth on your phone is turned on, and your device is connected under your phone’s Bluetooth settings.
  • Make sure that phone is within 30 feet of your device.
  • Make sure that your device can sync with the Fitbit app. For more information, see How do Fitbit devices sync their data?
  • Confirm that the Fitbit app can use your phone's GPS sensors. For more information, see How do I allow my Fitbit device to use my phone's GPS sensors?

See if GPS connects after each step

  1. Force quit, and reopen the Fitbit app to refresh the connection with your device.
  2. On your phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off and back on.
  3. Restart your phone.

Note: If the GPS signal is lost during the exercise, a map might not appear in the Fitbit app. If you're having issues with the GPS connection, see Why isn't GPS working on my Fitbit device?
