GPS won't connect?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Is there a particular sequence to get the exercise apps to connect to the phone GPS? Phone GPS and Bluetooth is on, I go into Walking Exercise on my Versa and it never stops 'Connecting...' - it can't find the GPS. I also tried loading the fitbit app on the phone but that didn't help. This is my 2nd Versa (returned the first with problems connecting, etc.). I had this one connect OK to the GPS for a walk yesterday but now I can't make this happen (also restarted the phone and the watch). As of today I am on the new firmware - 32.32.10.15, android app is 2.71. Did this get broken or am I missing a step?

I'm actually feeling kinda guilty. My Connected GPS works great every time now.  Didn't work reliably in the beginning but since the original firmware update it's worked perfectly. I've used it all over the USA. I've been in wooded area and open space. I've been in areas with no cellular coverage. At those times I had to wait to sync my exercise until I had coverage. I have no breaks in the map, my distance is accurate and my other tracked components seem bang on. I'm on a Samsung S7 running Android 8.0 and I use Verizon.

@kcroninAre you on firmware - 32.32.10.15? That version is when mine stopped connecting to the GPS. There was a point that some were getting firmware - 32.32.10.20 - but it appears that version was never widely distributed.

@StarkRaven .Yes, I'm on 32.32.10.15.  I always close all other apps but leave the Fitbit app open as well as what I'm listening to from my phone. I do a sync just before starting the exercise to ensure bt connection is fresh.  Using BT headphones too. Works consistently even with pauses mid exercise. I wonder if it helps that I use a common cell phone that isn't especially new. Sorry for all those for whom it fails repeatedly.

@kcronin

Wow. When did you take delivery of your Versa SE?

@nswint. I purchased it at Best Buy on release day in April. I'm in NY. I've never worn it in the shower or swimming. I did drop it once on a tile floor. It has a ding in the case but the glass screen was fine. I have a bumper/screen protector on it now.

I may have found a solution for iOs users with exactly the same issue : connected twice and the second time it couldn't connect during exercise ...

So, my solution :

In Settings / Fitbit, I have turnded  everything off and on again, even location. I have tryed this only once with success, will see if it works always.

But if it is a solution, Fitbit iOs app must be the culprit...

I had the watch for less than a week and what you are saying makes the most sense. Bring it back time.

Is this on Android or iOS? I can only toggle on or off - I can't find any other options for location permissions.

Will fitbit accept a return for these devices as a result of these issue. There are loads of threads on the matter but they don't seem to comment on them ever.

The evidence suggest that in order to get your Versa to connect to your phone and track your location is to drop it on a tile floor so that it results in a dent in the case.  Smiley Wink

Today my Versa connected to my GPS for the first time ever! I did make sure the Fitbit App was open on my Samsung mobile. I discovered the Fitbit App does not recognise the GPS on my Ulefone Armor 2 mobile :-(.

Connected GPS sits in "Connecting..." forever on my new Versa.

Haven't had success in recording a single run!

Sometimes it would say "Connecting..." for a minute or so, then it will buzz to indicate that it had finally connected, I will click the green "Play" button to start recording and it drops back to "Connecting..." dance immediately.

Android 8.1.0

FitBit App 2.77

Versa firmware 32.32.10.15 (somebody says 32.32.10.20 is available? HOW? WHERE?)

My fitbit app has all the permissions it ever asked for, my bluetooth is surely on, as well as mobile network and wifi...

And most important: my Charge 2 works perfectly with the same setup!

The only reason I bought Versa (yesterday) is my HR sensor is dead in my Charge 2. Will have to run without HR data for now, I guess.

Same phone, same app works seamlessly and perfectly on my Charge 2.

I mean I just hold a button on my Charge 2, after 5-10 seconds it shows the GPS is connected and records my run flawlessly after that! I do listen music via bluetooth on my runs and never-ever had any issues with that and my Charge 2. But Versa is a different story, it seems.

Looks like original poster @StarkRaven posted this topic way back in May.

At that time his version of Versa firmware was exactly same as mine now in August.

No updates to firmware since May? Seriously?

I have seen mentions of a version 32.32.10.20 somewhere in these forums.
Can anyone tell me if I am missing any upgrades?

My solution has been to roll back to version 2.74.2.  It's the only recent app version that has a solid Connected GPS for me. Now that I've figured out how to go back and forth with versions it's fairly easy to test. Not allowed to post how to roll back here but there are instructions all over. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android 8.0 and a Versa with firmware 32.32.10.15.

Heeeeeey! Thanks for that suggestion!

That's the only thing I have not tried yet. AFAIK mid of July was also plagued by that ugly "showing zero steps upon sync" bug. Probably fitbit had some major refactoring at around that time or some long-running branch merged in..... huh.

Will totally try downgrading the app and report my results this weekend.

If it will happen to fix the issue, I will blame fitbit for not releasing a rollback ))))

@ironcream  Just want to mention that, if I remember correctly, version 2.74 was the version that ate up data.  For people on limited data plans this was a serious issue.  Version 2.74.1 was released to solve this but there were still issues so 2.74.2 was released.  My suggestion if you decide to use 2.74.2 is to watch your data carefully.  Clearly this version still has the bug in it with a patch to sort it out thus the .2 extension.

Initially I was doing well with 2.75 but then it became unstable for GPS connection.  2.76 had the problems of 0 steps and 0 calories as well as the loss of the live heartbeat.  Also, Connected GPS was bad.  When I upped to 2.77, again, initially the Connected GPS was good and then each day it became progressively worse.

As stated before, I'm currently at 2.74.2 with a Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android 8.0 and a Versa with firmware 32.32.10.15.  I'm in NY on Verizon although I don't know if that makes any difference.

Good luck with your efforts.

Hi

I have exactly the same problem. The connected gps functionality isn't working at all. I have contacted the fitbit support about this issue and they said that my phone isn't on their supported device list. Thats it.

Kind of a weird perspective since this is only bad programming...

Anyways, i'm going to sell my versa and try  another company. Without the connected gps functionality the versa is useless to me.

Cheers!

I see this thread is a bit dated, but I stumbled on it while researching the same problem. New Fitbit Versa, but having issues connecting to GPS to map my exercise.
This could be just coincidence but I found today that if I opened my Fitbit app on the phone (iPhone 6+) after initiating my exercise session on my Versa (before actually starting it, but opening up the exercise routine to see the "Connecting..." message), then the watch connected immediately. I then started recording the routine. When I got home and reviewed the session,  the map of my path was there.
