Getting "New message" when I try to open text messages

Phone is a Galaxy S 7. Just set up my brand new Versa and I am receiving text notifications, but I can't open or clear them. They just show up as "you have 5 new messages". The reply option works, but it's hard to reply to a message that I can't see! No way to see what app is sending me the notification and no way to clear them out. And yes, all my apps are open to send notifications and I've gone through my Fitbit app and set up all notifications there too. Don't know what else to try.

Check that you have notifications set the 'Show on Lock Screen' in your phones Settings.  On Samsungs if this is not enabled then they wont show on a secondary device. My old S7 used to work well with notifications so I think your will once you get the settings sorted.

Hey @luckykats, let me give you a warm welcome to the Community! I'd like you to complete the following so you can check your text messages:

  1. Open your "Messages" app on your Android device.

  2. Go to "Settings."

  3. Click on "Notifications."

  4. Make sure there is a checkmark next to "Preview Message"

Thanks so much for that tip too @NellyG!

Let me know how it goes!

I did everything that everyone has suggested. I've opened every
notification button on every app. I've wiped the Versa and reinstalled
everything. I've updated my phone. The only notification I get on the Versa
is for FB messenger. Everything else.........crickets. No texts, no phone
calls, no other apps. I give up.

In my Versa settings, the only options it gives me for text messaging apps
is FB Messenger or Hangouts. Which explains why I can get notifications
from Messanger. But, there's no recognition for the "messages" setting that
I use on my phone to receive text messages. Again, I just give up. So, far,
the Versa sucks!

Well, it's finally working. It took a couple of days for everything to get itself sorted out, I guess. All of a sudden, this morning, there were notifications popping up on my Versa for all the apps I'd set up. Go figure. I did everything right, it just took a few days to work its way through the system.
