I know the Versa 2 is not a "medical device" but really??????

What it shows is my Versa 2 with my heart rate displayed as 108 bpm and two pulse oximeters showing 84 bpm.

And a manual taking of my pulse - the ol' "count for 15 seconds times four trick" - gave me 84 bpm. I had just spent a few minutes "walking" on a trampoline in stocking feet to test it out after putting it together for my wife and went out to put my shoes on for my morning treadmill session. Noticing the heart rate on the device was 108 grabbed my pulse oximeter and asked to borrow my wife's, as well. Five seconds of standing still to let the pulse oximeters to stabilize and this is what I got.

For my afternoon treadmill session I started seeing what I considered high numbers so I held my device against my finger tip for 15 minutes and had no irregularities. Put it back on my wrist but on the underside of my arm and still had a clean reading. Moved it around to the top of my arm for the rest of the session. Within minutes I was reading below zone for five minutes then spiked up to cardio for eight minutes before dropping like a rock to below zone for the last two minutes.

Yep - not a medical device. But I am starting to wonder about its qualifications as a fitness device.

With my device continually overstating my heart rate during exercise by 20 to 35 bpm and sometimes as much as 60 bpm against not just other devices but by my counting my pulse rate for 15 seconds, I am prepared to give up.

After my morning treadmill session this morning I ordered an Apple Watch Series 6. It is just unfortunate that the device will not be delivered for a few weeks as the local Apple Store will be closed for at least a month due to the increase in COVID-19 cases here in Southern California. I fully support their doing so.

I will continue to use the FitBit app for meal tracking as I have too much invested in creating the custom foods I book daily.

But with an on-board Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), I cannot, in good faith, trust my health and possibly my life, to faulty equipment. And once again, I know it is not a medical device, but it and other FitBit devices fail as exercise trackers just as badly.

Good luck to all and may 2021 be a better year for humanity that 2020 was.
