Green heart rate lights won't turn off

I figured it would be a good idea to turn heart rate off since I'm not using it and the green light would just use battery, but I can't get the green lights to go off. I turned off heart rate on the versa and it no longer shows my heart rate, but the green light still is on and using battery. Does it always just stay on?

Yes, the green lights will stay on when you are wearing the versa, regardless of the settings. Fitbit say:

"Note that the green LED on the back of Versa continues to flash even if you turn off heart rate tracking. "

from page 36 of https://staticcs.fitbit.com/content/assets/help/manuals/manual_versa_en_US.pdf

Some people have suggested that this might be related to security for fitbit pay (as it needs to know when you take off the watch).

Doesnt make sense because my versa doesnt have fitbit pay.
