So I've had my versa for about a week and have had 5 workouts with it. First I'll start that it is showing a much different recording then my charge 2 did. It is a difference of about 30 bpm depending on what I'm doing. And the resting HR is 67 when charge 2 was 60. Also when I'm doing a workout it won't show the right heart rate unless I start an exercise recording. I was doing cardio for 10 min and it shows 120bpm which is crazy low, I turn on the record exercise and it shoots up to 160bpm. This can't be an intended feature...? Is my versa a lemon?

Different price points, same HR attacking sensors and technology. One should not differ from the other as much as it does.

@Marussia no-no, there are big differences in the sensor hardware and firmware. Conceptually the principle is the same : measuring changes in light reflection from skin due to blood pulse modulation. But under the hood there are large differences:
In some other thread I posted a link to a webpage from a guy who opened up many trackers to analyse the internal guts when it comes to the heart-rate tracking, and also compared the pulse rates.
What fitbit should have done is to integrate the same heart-rate sensor hardware that was used in the Charge 2 (which was quite good) into the Versa and others, and just offer a 'daily-don't-care-if-not-very-accurate-mode' vs a 'high-accuracy-uses-more-power-mode'. That would have made so many people so much happier.

Cool did not know that. Generally they do not disclose this in most articles I’ve read.

I had two Charge HR's that gave accurate resting pulse rates. When they were both operational, they seemed to read workout pulses reliably as well. Unfortunately neither lasted past a year, but fortunately I received both as gift or hand-down. So both Charge HR and Charge 2 were pretty accurate for heart rate tracking.
Such a shame that they made a change in the wrong direction for the Charge 3 and Versa.

Yours may not have been, and I have news for your, there are people with complaints about apple watch HR measurements too! Like all tech devices, I'm sure some are bad...if mine wasn't accurate I'd return and get a different one. Fitbit has been measuring HR forever, so obviously they have that part down. Mine continues to be accurate whenever I check, resting or not, 6+ months later. The daily charging is a killer for Apple watch in my book.

@Walker...that was my point. I was responding to a specific post, but I see my reply doesn't state who. In any case, it was stated above that "fitbits are indeed inaccurate". Which, while is the case for some, obviously isn't for most...Same can be said almost any device by any company.

Did you ever get any improvement. I just got the versa for xmas and find the same issue...

It did seem to get better at certain times of the day but I ended up returning it for an Apple Watch. I’ve only had it 4 days but it‘s giving more sensible numbers from the start.

Sadly no. I actually went ahead and bought myself a Charge 3. I never really liked the Versa like I loved my Charge 2, I found it dull and less motivating without the fun and the chatter. So I was hoping for the Charge 3 to be an improved version of the Charge 2. But I found that the Charge 3 was just more like the Versa. With the touch screen and the missing side button (in cold winter weather it's a great advantage to have a solid real button to press and I soon found the Charge 3 not reacting when I touched the side "button" area in the cold. The Charge 3 was also like the Versa with built-in "apps" and I found that it, just like my Versa, was slow when I wanted to turn pages, it would have a poor reaction and "hang" like an old smart phone or laptop. Even though it was brand new. Then, to my suprise, the Charge 3 suddenly died as I plugged it into the charger after only 3-4 weeks. I took it back to the store and they concluded it seemed that the batteri had suffered a short circuit. And believe me, there is nothing wrong with the wiring in my house. The socket is also just a couple of years old and this has never happened to any other appliances in our home. And I always plug the charger into the socket first, before I connect the device to the charger. I did everything right.
I told the people at the store I'd rather have a new Charge 2 instead, even though I knew it would probably break after a year like the others I've had (I've had 3 Charge 2's. The first one had a faulty battery. The two next ones cracked open on warm sunny days. A well-known issue with the Charge 2), but at least I like the Charge 2 and they measure heart rate quite accurately in my experience.
I then talked to the store guy and told him my sad and long story of 5 different, faulty Fitbit devices in 18 months. He said his experience was quite the same as mine and that he had switched to Garmin! So instead of getting a replacement Fitbit, I bought a Garmin Forerunner 35. Same price. It is a simple device which gives you the basic info: steps, heart rate, active minutes, gps-logged exercise (walks, runs, workouts), altitudes. It has real buttons to press. No fancy screens, only a simple choice between analog or digital look. The battery can go on for a week without charging. The heart rate is measured quite accurately. It does pretty much what the Charge 2 does. It's not as fun as the dear Charge 2, but it works. I miss the Fitbit app and all my personal data from 18 months of hard work, since I'm not able to transfer these into the Garmin app. But I just keep walking and running and I'm so far very happy with the Garmin Forerunner 35. I never wanted a smart watch to tell me someone's calling or texting me! I just want to keep track of my activities.
I'm disappointed that the Fitbit devices have turned out this way, I was their greatest fan but now it's all Garmin for me.

Sad to read your experiences with the various Fitbit trackers, but yeah for some people a simple Garmin Forerunner is all that it takes to be happy. That said, a new Charge 2 you can pick up quite cheaply and it is great for everything exercise. That you had problems with three of them in a row is very atypical. Why is that some people have a lots of problems while most people have none is beyond me.
As a side note I really like my Versa, it is more comfortable than Charge 2/3, some the apps are cool (and useful!), it has the buttons 😉 but I admit that I have issues with the HR tracking. So I use a Charge 2 too, for exercising.

The Fitbit verse is horrible in tracking heart rate to say the least. I’ve had mine for a month and it stops working mid workout. It’s junk.

Just FYI, not that this is a "Great" solution, but I find mine to be much more accurate when worn upside down (on the inside of the wrist, vs. normal watch wearing). I do it when I'm sleeping and working out.

Hm, in my couple of days with the Versa, resting HR seems comparable to my previous devices (last one Gear S3). It's pretty well-known that it Fitbit doesn't do great in high intensity workouts, at least half the reviews note this fact (look at something like Garmin for decent high intensity readings). For me, what's important is resting heart rate data and for that, it works fine.
I considered the Apple Watch, but need sleep tracking and Fitbit is rather good at that. Battery life is also a big deal for me.
I am discovering that transferring my data to an from FitBit is harder than I expected, so I may still return the Versa, as I feel I should have the right to transfer my own data where I chose.

Hi Goosehp,
Have you checked your heart rate settings on the Fitbit app? Sometimes the highest HR is too high or too low.

I'm on my second Versa. The first one died suddenly and I have to say that Fitbit took care of it quickly for me. That being said, my old Versa seemed very accurate. With the new one, I was reading 105 resting and the pulse oximeter at the doctor's office read 74. I was just jogging on the treadmill and the versa read 170, but the treadmills monitor read 128. Also, when I look at my history it shows many time that my HR is 120ish and there is simply no reason it should have been since I know I was pretty stationary sure those times. I think I would notice if my HR suddenly bumped to 120. So basically it's useless for monitoring. Not sure why I would have such a difference between 2 of the same model and software. I have tried both loose and tight on my wrist as recommended. Also odd that none of the gurus have responded to this thread.
