Heart rate labeled incorrectly as below zones post exercise

So I'm having issues after the update and at this point, I don't know if it's with my Versa Lite, my Alta HR, my app (Samsung S10), both or neither. I wear my Alta HR while doing my cardio (elliptical) and my Versa Lite the rest of the time. After the update, it says my cardio is 100% below zones. When I go into the exercise, it shows my average heart rate is always well within "cardio" limits and the accompanying graph seems to show that as well, it just doesn't log it in the appropriate zones. I wore my Versa for cardio to test it out as it's done well with exercise when I don't have my Alta handy, but had no luck. I've tried troubleshooting a bit- I've gone in (on my computer, not the app) and adjusted my max heart rate back to try and readjust my zones to what they were before. I've turned the heart rate monitors on both watches off, synced, back on, and re-synced. I've reset both. I've rebooted the app. I'm out of ideas. Does anyone have anything else I can try? Otherwise this might finally be my end with Fitbit which I've been reluctant to do since I've had my "upgrade" Versa Lite less than a year. But having my cardio not count as cardio is a frustrating cherry on top of a slew of old issues. (And I know HOW to wear my watches. They've always worked before. I promise it's not suddenly too hot or sweaty or sitting in the wrong spot or some other "user error" when wearing it that I suddenly developed.)

The calculation of heart rate zones has changed, now also taking into account resting heart rate.  Along with this is the change from Active Minutes to Active Zone Minutes.  For many people, this has raised the zones.  This change has taken place on the newer models, but I believe not back to the Alta HR.  If you are using your Versa Lite and Alta HR on the same account, I don't know how that would be handled.

You can read about the heart rate zone calculations here:

How does my Fitbit device calculate my heart-rate zones?

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

I know the zones changed. But my average 152 BPM is well with my 'cardio' zone. At the very least l was above 111 which is my fat burn zone the entire time. Yet the workout reads 100% below zones.

@justabe42 -

Did you just update the firmware on your device?

There is a known issue that the times in zone have been zeroes for the first 24 hours or so. This has been reported by many users who also reported either one or two (mainly one) days later that the issue was resolved.

Good luck and welcome to the boards.

I did the update on Sep 7th and have been having problems ever since. My troubleshooting attempts (a few of which were your suggestions I found in other posts, so thank you!) haven't helped and it hasn't just fixed itself in 3 weeks. Sadly, I think I'm out of luck and need to move beyond Fitbit.

My heart rate is just not calculating correctly at all. Just did a boot camp where I can barely breathe or catch my breath but my heart rate is calculating at the most 100 when I know its much higher. All of my workouts aren't even registering fat burning let alone cardio.

I have the same issue but mine stays between 40-50....I posted the graph here to show what happens during a workout: Inaccurate Heart Rate After Firmware Update

Hi Gina...I have the versa 3...my watch also says every workout is below zones when I know I definatly worked hard...

How was this resolved for you?

Thank you

Same here.  I don't understand what I need to get my heart rate to to he in one of the zones (see attached screenshot).  However my watch will track the zones and give an update at the end of a workout.

I'm on a Pixel 7 Pro with a Pixel watch

Fitbit is not allowing me to attach my screenshot. Not sure why.  Basically my heart rate was in the 170s for a decent amount of the workout

I am having the same problem with my Fitbit.

I am wearing a Fitbit Alta. Yesterday I added a new-to-me Fitbit Inspire 2 to my account, and was prompted for a free 1-year subscription Fitbit Premium.

I accepted... and when I looked later in the day at the information for the morning's bike ride, it recorded the entire thing as "below zones," even though my heart rate was comparable to previous rides that scored as a combination of "fat burn" and "cardio."

From the responses above, it sounds like some people are saying that the problem will fix itself after 24 hours.

If it doesn't, what are my options? If I cancel the free 1-year Premium subscription, will that do it??

I have exactly the same issue, heart rate of bike ride going up to 158 and all reported as below zones.

What is the fix?

This has been happening to me ever since March 11th. Incredibly frustrating. Seems like an easy fix to process the properly recorded HR data to zones. Instead I'm having to do this myself manually. Fitbit get yourself together please.

Following to get hints on how to fix this.  Huge percentage of my Zumba workouts show below zones.

This is exactly me. talked to them about it a month ago and no solution yet. Have you found any fixes?

Same here on the pixel watch and pixel phone...

I had this issue for a little while, mine was fixed after I went into App Settings in the Fitbit App and changed my time zone to be detected automatically (or to be in the time zone I'm currently in). Workouts were showing up at being done at the wrong time which is I'm guessing what caused the issue.

It is July 14, 2023, almost 3 years after this was originally posted as an issue and it's looking like this issue of Fitbit incorrectly labeling or exercise as below zones is still an issue. I had been using and upgraded to the Charge 4 a few years ago but decided to switch back to the Charge 2 because of this very issue I had grown tired of being constantly being told I was below zones even when I knew I had worked out very intensely. It seemed that no matter how hard I had worked out even if I had worked out at such an intense level that I had sweated I was still told I'd been below zones. Unfortunately, I had to go back to the 4 because my 2 died and once again I am being told after a workout that I had been below zones, I am still in the process of recovering from a foot injury that left me immobile for almost 2 weeks just started walking again and am taking it slow. So of course, this makes it discouraging but also disappointing that Fitbit doesn't know how to account for this.
