Heart rate sensor going in and out

The heart rate sensor on my Fitbit Versa lite keeps on not wanting to track my heart rate. When it does this I have to turn the heart rate off and back on then shut down the Fitbit and restart it- this works for a few days and I have to repeat the process again. Is the sensor going bad????
