Heart rate sensor on Fitbit versa not working

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Despite being worn tightly around the wrist, my 20 day old versa was unable to detect my HR.

It was working fine the day before. Overnight, it started taking intermittent HR. Causing my versa to keep locking up. After a factory reset, it completely stopped detecting any HR. Green light is still working whenever I lift/ remove the watch to check.

Please help! Appreciated.

Hello @Waye, thanks for joining the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. ,

Thanks for bringing this situation to my attention and for letting me know the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far. Please note that occasionally, your watch can have difficulty finding a heart rate signal, typically due to the tracker's fit. For example, wearing your band tightly may constrict blood flow in your wrist and affect the signal. We also recommend experimenting with how high you place the tracker on your wrist. When you're not exercising, wearing the tracker just above the wrist bone--as you would a watch--typically works fine. However, moving the tracker up a couple inches can be helpful during high-intensity exercises or exercises that cause you to bend your wrist frequently. If you haven't already done so, please review our recommendations for wear and other tips.

Additionally, heart rate tracking on your Versa may not work in loose-fitting accessories. For optimal heart rate tracking, wear Versa classic band.

Finally, keep in mind that by default your watch's heart rate setting is "Auto," which means the heart rate sensors are on when the tracker is on your wrist. To verify you didn't accidentally turn the sensors off, go to Device Settings in the online Dashboard.

If you're wearing the watch correctly and the heart rate setting isn't turned off, try changing the setting (either Auto to On or On to Auto) from the Device Settings and then sync your Versa. The change won't take affect until you sync. If heart rate still doesn't appear after the sync, try restarting your Versa by pressing and holding the Back and Select buttons (left and bottom right) until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I can't seem to find the HR auto or on setting in the online dashboard.

I have done a factory reset 3 times. But unfortunately the Versa is still unable to detect any HR.

Shut down and turn back on - no change

Move the watch up and down my wrist and leaving it in various locations for at least a minute - still unable to detect any HR.

This thread seemed to die.  Did Fitbit support get back to you?  From what I see, there is not option for "Auto or On".  There is only "On or Off".  Is there a firmware release fix I wonder.  My Versa went stupid last night, seemed to be rebooting, sucked down battery at an incredible rate, and the Heart rate stopped working.  No lights, no nothing.  Has Fitbit turned out a lemon product?  I really like the design and had hoped to have this one for years like the last one but I've had it 1 month almost to the day.

It's really strange all the issues I've had with my versa. I also got one for my dad about two weeks ago and already his is giving trouble. It won't tell his heart rate either even after rebooting.

I'm really beginning to wonder if this was the best purchase.

Hi same thing happened to my Fitbit last month. It occurred after firmware update.

Device failed to finish firmware update several time, after I achieve Its HR sensor stopped working.

I send local representative back. They gave me a new replacement.

I think there is a problem in the firmware update process.

My new versa was updated during first setup. I has latest firmware but the android program still shows that there is new firmware update (but it tries to update with the same firmware, I doesn't aware that My versa has latest firmware already.

My fitbit Versa, heart rate sensor is also not working despite following the troubleshooting and restarting the device.

Seems to be a common problem.

I had to reluctantly return my Fitbit Versa.

After waiting for it to be released it proved to be a disappointment from start to finish.

My first issue was tracking steps and floors whilst Driving. My charge HR never did this.

Then it started inaccurately tracking my HR. Sometimes the bpm was 30 beats out. This was taken against my original charge HR and a hospital issue blood pressure monitor.

If this wasn’t enough, whether I received a notification about messages was totally random. This was the final straw. I returned it to John Lewis where I received a no quibble refund. The chap told me he had had numerous returns of this smartwatch. Which said it all really.

MyVersa also "lost" the HR monitor. There appears to be NO way to turn on off / reset / find anything relating to HR in the "on-line dashboard". Did a hard reset - even that didn't go as the web site states, however it did reset. Now the HR is running again. Whoever is in charge of the software for Fitbit wants to come out where we can see him and let him know what we are finding. As far as the product is concerned, no issues until now, and it's great for tracking my swimming.

I'm having the same problem. Got the Versa for Christmas. Have had a Fitbit for the last five years or so. Wearing and using it the exact same way as I did the others and they tracked fine.

The sleep settings aren't reading either, but I'm guessing that's a function of the heart rate monitor.

I am also having a problem with my Versa texting my heart rate. Only thing I haven't done is the fairy reset.

I’m having the same HR issue as well. I have not had good luck with this product at all!!

Mine is doing the exact same thing. I got mine for Christmas and the heart rate sensor stopped working even though it is on in my settings.

I also have the same problem. Heart rate monitor started to work intermittently and now stopped all together. Even resetting doesn’t help anymore 😱
