app points me to the desktop, and the desktop tells me it can only be done by the app.....circle of hell....someone get me out of this!!!

Don't know if this is the confusion point, but the app it has to be done from is the Fitbit app from the Windows store on a Windows 10 computer, not the phone app.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Sorry I didn't clarify, but I have a mac, so I'm trying to figure out how to do this, but my mac tells me I need to use my cell phone app (iphone), and my cell phone app tells me I need to use my desktop (mac). I'm getting nowhere and am thinking of just returning it.

With a Mac, you have to use the Fitbit Connect app.

See How do I listen to music and podcasts on my Fitbit watch?

and follow instructions for Mac.

That's all I know about it.
