How can I go back to Active Minutes and get rid of Zone Minutes?

The new update replacing the Active Minutes with Zone Minutes is absolutely horrible! I use the Active Minutes to help motivate me, but I’m not getting credit for: walking for long periods of time, weightlifting and parts of cardio sessions. This also assumes that the heart rate monitor is accurate, which mine is consistently lower on Versa read than actual heart rate.

FitBit developers- at least let us choose the platform we want to see (Active Minutes or Zone Minutes). I was considering upgrading to the Versa 3, but won’t waste my money if this doesn’t get resolved.

I couldn’t agree more! Active minutes were a real motivator for me but overnight I’ve gone from needing 92BPM to be considered ‘active’ to needing 118BPM to even register. I climbed stairs for 20 minutes straight yesterday and logged one zone minute which is ridiculous, as it was vigorous exercise for me. Bring back the choice to view Active Minutes please FitBit, or at least return the heart rate zones to what they were so we can be motivated without needed to hurt ourselves! Definitely won’t be upgrading my Versa until this is resolved.

I agree! I want my active minutes back!

So, my active minutes aren’t available on the App or my watch, but show correctly (like they used to be calculated) on the Dashboard.

Best Answer

You can't as "Active Minutes" no longer exists, your best is to try and configure "Zone Minutes" to suit your needs and I'm sorry to say learn to get used to it.

But they still aren’t calculating correctly. It gipped me of 11 minutes of activity! But it’s logged correctly as exercise.

Mine as well however I rarely get on my computer for fitbit, well anything really. I only did to see if mine showed on there as well. They probably just havent updated the dash board yet 🙄

I talked with Fitbit last night and they essentially told me too bad so sad.  They suggested going to Fitbit and requesting they bring active minutes back.  That of course helps none of us now who relied on active minutes for our motivation, etc.  They fixed something that wasn’t broken and disappointed a ton of users

Even worse when you are using charge 2 while working out as it doesn't have active zone crap and it won't show active minutes on app either. So basically it won't show your cardio or peak heart activity for the workout. BS!

Dear TF2020 and all others frustrated with the update:  I, too, think the update was poorly tested. I have the exact opposite problem with zone minutes from you though. On October 3rd I had 447 zone minutes and on October 5th I had 210 zone minutes!  All this is fake and meaningless as I am a woman in my 70s and I've not walked much due to injuries this year. Active minutes used to motivate me. Now I am getting unearned badges for all the fake activity. Floors are also fake. On September 28th I climbed 64 floors. Pretty good for an old lady. Then on October 7th I climbed 57 floors. All this fakery makes me frustrated with the Fitbit company.

I really hate that the company seems to be falling apart. I have been a Fitbit user for seven years! My Versa 2 before the update was way too generous with steps, but everything else worked pretty well. I use the timer on my Versa 2 for my glaucoma drops. If I ditch the Versa 2, I'll still need a smart watch of some sort for the alerts and the timer.

Last but not least, I bought my husband a Versa 2 right abot the time of the update. His did not come with the update, so I keep warning him not to forget and do the update.

This is so frustrating. Thanks for sharing. I spent a half hour trying to find the answer of how to switch back. Good thing came across your update.

I agree, has got me in the below zone . The whole time after I did a 40 minute workout. Even after a 60 minute run. This is my 3rd Fitbit, I really liked them until this change. I really hope they fix this, or I'll be forced to purchase out of Fitbit.

Hey all, I found a way to show active minutes on my versa 2! If you go into clock faces and specifically search active minutes, you can download a face watch that update your active minutes as it did before instead of the zone minutes. I agree with everyone, true active minutes is a huge motivator! I hope this helps!

I totally agree!  I hate the new active minutes! I just did a 20

minute weightlifting class workout on the Peleton app. It recognized the workouts as exercise but gave me 3 active minutes.

I had to buy a new Charge 4 because the screen on my Charge 3 stopped illuminating so I couldn’t read any data points (including a the time 🙄)  without looking on my app. I hate the new Active Zones so much that I am considering returning my Fit Bit and buying an Apple Watch instead.

Just had my watch update a couple of days ago.  Very unfortunate.  I absolutely can’t stand this new activity counter, “Zone Minutes”. It’s entirely inconsistent with what I’ve become accustomed to and therefore any new data is comparing apples to oranges. Why would Fitbit push this change without even the option to revert to the standard (and way more sensical) format? I simply refuse to “hack” my watch to make it somewhat comparable. As other responses in this forum have indicated, if Fitbit can’t produce a change in the coming weeks, I’m ditching this thing (Versa 2) for an Apple Watch...

I agree, I’m very disappointed to learn you can’t revert back to active minutes. That was a huge motivator and part of the reason I just upgraded to a new watch from my old one. The new active zone minutes measurement makes me feel like I don’t do anything even when I log direct workouts and I know my heart rate was up and now I’m very let down after workouts and walks. Fitbit really needs to give the option or I’ll have to switch to Apple watch or something else. I can’t believe how much less I look at my new watch since it doesn’t do the things that made me buy it to begin with. I wouldn’t have bought a new fit bit had I known this was happening. It’s THAT disappointing.

Devastated 😭

Wish I read this before doing the update!

I hate the Zone Minutes! I only get "credit" for killing myself in a HIIT workout. Weights etc are also so important to health and fitness, particularly as we get older but it gets no recognition. Absolutely ridiculous the only activity that counts is extreme cardio 😞

So glad this isn’t just me. My Inspire HR always had my workouts as cardio and peak. I’ve just done a workout and I could barely breathe by the end and the whole workout was listed as ‘below zone’ it’s so demotivating. Also the calorie count is different to my Inspire by about 20 calories a workout
