It worked then stopped telling me on my phone to charge the battery
how do I reinstate that notice?

Thank you for the information provided.
If you are not receiving the Fitbit Low Battery Notification, please make sure the feature is enable in your Fitbit account. For instructions, please visit this article. Please be aware that you will receive the notification message/email when your Fitbit Versa 2 battery is lower than 20% of charge and it has synced recently.
If you are having difficulties with a third party app installed in your watch, I would recommend contacting directly the developer. In the app description, you can find their contact information.
