I’m new to Fitbit. I’ve burned 3,300 calories today. I know most of that is just through daily life, but how do I know how much is burned through walking? I’ve done 10,000 steps today. I’ve not been active much through the day(like going for a long walk, jogging etc) it’s all been broken up, so i can’t see an accurate figure in the excerise part of the app. So I can’t really see how many calories I’ve actually burned today, so how am I meant to know how many calories to eat so that I will lose weight. Does any of this make sense?
Ive got the MyFitnessPal app and it shows that I’ve done 7000 ish steps and burned 120 calories. Why isn’t the Fitbit app this simple!

As well as tracking calories burned through activity your fitbit also tracks your BMR calories. These are the calories you burn just keeping your body alive (even when asleep). They are calculated from your profile settings for age, height, weight etc so you needn't be wearing your fitbit to get them.
Your BMR calories count just as much as your exercise calories when it comes to managing your weight which is why fitbit includes them in the calculations of how many calories you can eat.
If you really want to split out the BMR calories from the activity calories then you have to do that manually. Look at your calorie burn rate when you are asleep. Mine works out at about 1 calorie per minute and this is my BMR burn rate. This adds up to 1440 calories per day just keeping my body alive. Subtracting this from my calories burned total gives me my activity calories.
So, if I were to stay in bed all day I could eat 1440 calories and stay at the same weight.

How do I find how many calories I burn per minute?
If in the app, I’ve put my goal to lose 2lbs per week, does your daily calorie allowance take this into account?

One way to check your calorie burn rate is to go to your activity log at https://www.fitbit.com/activities
Select "calories burned" and hover over a time when you were asleep. This will show the calories burned in each 15 minute period.
When you set up a weight plan in fitbit the calorie allowance takes into account your desired deficit and your BMR calories so you can eat all the calories it says you can.
