OK, it appears to me you just might have jumped the gun in the firmware update. It does not appear that you had set up your wi-fi on the Versa and that is what it uses to download the update.

So having said that, here is  what you might want to try:

1.  unlink the Versa from your app. On the dashboard of the app tap on the settings icon on the upper right (the one that looks like a document). You should get to a screen where you see the Versa tile. Tap on that tile. Look for the trashcan tile on the upper right and tap that. That should go through the process of unlinking the unit from your account.

2. Go to the phone's bluetooth site and if the Versa is shown, then unlink it.

3. go back to the Fitbit app and on the dashboard tap on the settings icon and then look for and tap the add a device tile and select the Versa. Make sure the Versa is nearby as you will need the 4 digit pin that it displays.  Make sure it goes through the entire setup including wi-fi. From my experience the firmware update is automatic once the unit is completely through the set-up, if not, you can tap on the update once setup is complete.

Let me know if you run into snags.

Walk us through what you have done since you brought the unit home. Take it out of the box, plug in the charger, set up wifi link... etc...

After taking it out of the box and eeasing the instructions  I switched it on and what was displayed on the screen was the instruction to download the app. I downloaded the app on my phone, a Samsung galaxy A5, android version, 7.0. then I opened a fitbit account. the versa then displayed a 4 digit pin on it's screen for me to punch into the phone. then I got an email to verify my account. then I clicked on the verify account link on the email. then I got a message saying that my account is successfully verified. on the phone, on the dashboard page of app, I saw a link at the top that said, firmware update. clicked on that and it told me that update failed. then another page with the title "Not Working ?" at the top popped up. then it asked me to try using Bluetooth. I tried using Bluetooth and it also failed to update and asked me to try via Wi-Fi. I tried over wi-fi and it it still failed.

my versa screw  is still telling me to download app. I don't know what to do. please help.

Oh thank you so much! You are a star. I realised what the problem is. You were so right: the watch was not connecting to the wi-fi network I was initially using. So I got another wi-fi router and it worked like a charm. I am all sorted now. The HR monitor LED lights were also not going on but they went on as soon as the versa set-up was complete. My watch screen also now displays. Thank you so much. I hope I will not have HR monitor LED light issues later on as I have seen so many complaints about that one. But right now I am so happy. I feel like running a 90 km marathon right now and bench pressing 200 kg. I just went from zero to a 100 real quick. Thank you so much. LOL 🙂
