How to transfer Music to Versa using iTunes?

OK. I cannot download music, and I cannot register the versa on the app on a mac (it is not listed as a product).

I've looked at the forums. I made my itunes available for sharing on xml.  I plugged into the cradle plugged into my computer.  I did not turn off bluetooth on my computer as the 'help' indicated -- because without bluetooth I have no keyboard or touchpad (I'm using a desktop).

Please -- how do I put music from itunes on this thing. Please.

how do I figure what wifi my versa and computer are connected to? I can't download music, to my versa

Best Answer

I've downloaded the fitbit  connect app and got to the part where you choose which tracker at this part the versa is listed as mobile setup only!  Am I missing something as there is no other option to progress and get to the desktop app to complete its installation.

Where is the Fitbit playlist? On my watch it says to go to the computer. On the computer I don't see the music icon on the Fitbit dashboard.

Can you share how you got this done step by step. I did everything on the original post and turned off bluetooth. It says my songs are DRM protected...

@JOrozco DRM (digital rights management) tagged music won't transfer. Music with that tag generally was downloaded from a streaming site like Spotify, Apple Music or Amazon Music. If the music is from your streaming account that you downloaded for offline listening it cannot be further transferred to your Versa. You need to make a playlist with only music that you actually bought. This is a music industry restriction.

You can buy from iTunes, Amazon or Google Music or even from CDs you own so long as you can load the music onto the hard drive of your computer.

I'll give you the step-by-step that works for me every time.

1. The Versa WiFi connection doesn't stay active unless being actively used.  WiFi is only used for Music transfer and firmware updates.  So, go into the Fitbit app on you phone and WiFi Settings and refresh the connection to your 2.4 ghz wifi band.  You should see the network listed with the word "Connected" when the connection is made.  You can confirm this on your Versa by going to Settings>About>IP Address and you should see numbers and not "wifi off".

2.  Go to your computer and make sure you are connected to the EXACT SAME 2.4 ghz wifi band.  I have a dual band router and a booster in my home so I can see a bunch of different wifi connections.  I gave them all different names so I could recognize them.  I make the wifi bands match.

3. On your Versa open the Music app and choose "Transfer Music".

4. Go the the Fitbit Connect app on your computer and open the "Manage My Music" part of Fitbit Connect.  You'll see the message "Looking for your Watch" and a spinning circle.  It takes maybe up to 20 seconds to connect.

If I open the Fitbit Connect Manage My Music as a first step, my computer doesn't find my watch. I find that performing the connection in this series of steps works best for me.

Once the connection is made you'll see a list of playlists with a drag and drop feature.  I don't make my playlists this way.  Instead I go into iTunes and create my playlist from music that I own (purchased) and have downloaded to my computer.  I select that playlist (I have made several for my Versa) and start the transfer.

This process works for me every time.

Is the Fitbit Connect app the same as the dashboard?? I've downloaded the
app on my computer (Windows) and phone (Android). Both show my dashboard,
but i don't see any links or buttons that say Manage My Music anywhere on
the computer. On the phone, I do find Personal Music under Media, where I
am directed to use the Fitbit software on my computer. Vicious circle
because on my computer, I don't see where to go from the dashboard.

@AmpThingsUp  No, the Fitbit Connect app isn't the same as the dashboard.  Also, this thread was originally started for Mac.  For Windows 10 users you want the Fitbit app not Fitbit Connect.  For Windows 8.1 you want Fitbit Connect.  Won't work for Windows 8.0 (I think) or Windows 7 (I'm sure).  You don't say which Windows you are on.

Here's a link for the app for the computer.  Scroll to the bottom for the computer app links and choose your platform.  https://www.fitbit.com/setup?platform=win10

Also, here's a Fitbit Help article with step-by-step instructions.  Again, follow the links for your platform.

https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/2251

Even tho' Windows 7 is listed, I've read many times on the forums that it's not working for Windows 7.

YMMV.

Good Luck.

@Numb1pep As I understand it, you need Windows 8.1 or higher to move music to your Versa. Unfortunately you will not be able to move music from your iPad which is considered a mobile device.

Kathy: exact same issue as the amp things up.  I have the Windows 10 fitbit dashboard, (bought versa a month ago). I can't find the music icon, or manage my music options anywhere.  If I need to reinstall the app on the PC, will it delete my historical data?

@homefry  You want to load the Fitbit app to your computer running Windows 10.  Here's a YT video that demonstrates the process.  I'm Mac so I'm not much help with the Windows 10 process but it seems quite clear in the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmbUJwbEQDo

The Music app is on your Versa and should have come preloaded.  You will want to swipe sideways from your clock face to find it.  Here's a a picture of my Versa.  You can see the icon for the Music app has music notes.  Once music is loaded to your Versa, you will start here with the music app to choose your playlist and track.

Thanks--I've looked at that video.  My fitbit app on my PC does not have the same look (when he's showing the app at the one minute mark).  I have the music app on the watch per your image.  Some of us are not seeing the media or music icon on the PC.

How did you transfer the iTunes files?  I have gone though the process and it says that the music is encrypted and isn't transferable

@JennSgrignoli  Where did you get your music?  Music downloaded from a streaming site for offline listening (Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify, Amazon Music) won't transfer to the Versa due to limitations placed by the Music industry.  Some very old CDs are the same way.  Did you buy your music?  This from the Fitbit Help pages:

https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/2251/?q=how+to+transfer+music&l=en_US&fs=Search&...

The music and podcast file types you can download to your watch depend on whether you use a PC or a Mac. Note that some older songs may not transfer due to copyright protections (known as DRM encryption).

PC:

  • MP3 files
  • MP4 files with AAC audio
  • WMA files

Mac:

  • MP3 files
  • MP4 files with AAC audio"

I need to figure out another source, any suggestions?

@JennSgrignoli If you are paying for the music from iTunes (ie individual songs or albums) the music shouldn't be encrypted and should transfer. Do you mean Apple Music the Apple streaming service?
