Hello @MarilynnR and welcome to the Community. It sounds like your Always On Display is on. Swipe down on your screen to go to your Quick Settings. Tap on the bottom left icon, the one that looks like a watch face, to turn it off. The touch screen is very sensitive and you can turn things on/off without realizing it. Several years ago, before Fitbit released Sleep Mode, I started an exercise moving in my sleep. My Fitbit vibrated when the GPS connected and it woke me up.
Update: My instructions are for the Versa 4. The OP initially asked about a Versa 4. The moderator edited the title.
