Sorry but I'm at a loss as to why people would purchase a fitness tracker and then want to disable the main feature namely the heart rate tracking?? I personally don't notice the flashing lights on the back and like others have mentioned are used to detect when it is on the wrist for Fitbit pay security.

Fair enough, though I still don't see the logic of buying a fitness tracker and switching off the main feature for tracking your fitness!! It's like buying a TV and never switching it on as you don't want to use it's main purpose.

sorry for the extremely late reply.. but this was not an issue on my old Fitbit Blaze's (I had 2 of them).. this is an issue with the Fitbit Versa.. I keep thinking it will go away with a software update, but no.

it seems to not count your steps properly when it's covered (especially to a Challenge).

yes... I put mine in my pocket a lot.. and then if I change clothes I forget it.. so I miss half of my steps being counted.. and I like doing Challenges.. so that kills my step count.. they've programmed me out of wearing my watch!

some of us do not need to track our heart rate 24 hours a day. this is my 3rd Fitbit. with the first 2, I was able to turn the heart rate monitor off, and the green light would stop blinking. I would turn it on when I was working out or any other time I felt like monitoring my heart rate. with my latest Fitbit (a Versa), I turn the heart rate monitor off, and the green light continues to blink. I do not understand the end of your second sentence ? I do notice the green lights blinking and they REALLY bother me!

main purpose--depends on what you want it for .. I want it to count my steps, and monitor my heart rate when I want it to monitor my heart rate (which is not all the time)... I also wanted it to monitor my sleep, which I am not doing anymore because I can't stand the green light blinking all the time -- it feels warm on my arm and bothers me.

yes Donnarita19.. I tested it today.. all my steps counted and loaded with the black tape on. There was a separate issue with steps not loading correctly to a Challenge in a different time zone. that issue is still there. but my steps were counted properly and they correctly loaded to a Challenge with the black tape on.

I would like to be able to use the heart rate tracker when I want to. I do not need 24 hour heart rate tracking. The LED light system on the bottom of the versa actually tans my skin and causes me to have raised bumps. Many fitness and health enthusiasts have become concerned about the long term effects of constant heart rate monitoring and even the waves emitted by the Bluetooth connection.
