What's your phone model and OS? For now, please try this:
The trick here is to not pair in phone Bluetooth settings but rather let the Fitbit mobile app do that.
Additional tips if sync issues persist: If you have Wifi set up, go to Fitbit mobile app and remove it, then sync your Versa. I noticed that it causes issues for me. If you have other Bluetooth devices paired with your phone, forget them. One of them might be causing issues. Also, make sure All day sync is enabled. If you're on Android, make sure Always Connected and Keep Alive Widget are ON. Also on Android, make sure that Fitbit app is not being optimized in Android's Battery Settings.

Thanks, but I know that. I just wanted to point out that maybe they should test the releases better and end up hiding behind the list of compatible phones. Other devices do not have these problems, the standards exist for that.
This is most likely a regression. Actually they've fixed the Honor issues and broken something else.

@torshind no, I do understand. But unfortunately if you cannot make 2.85 work for you at all, then you need to roll back to the last stable build.
