Is it safe yet to apply the new firmware updates?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I'm one of those who has resisted all temptation to accept the Versa update (or updates) that started in or around November, especially after hearing of numerous problems.  The topic on this was closed yet I never heard anything that said whether the software / firmware had been fixed and was no safe to install.  So my question - have the November / December update(s) been fixed are finally safe to install without yellow streaks on screen, loss of notifications and other functionality?  I'm not the time to be a rebel, I just don't want to brick or otherwise ruin my fitbit.

Hi @pbug56 , why did your Versa never connect over Wifi? In principle it's very simple: within the dashboard of your Fitbit app, press the Versa's watch icon and scroll down to WiFi settings. Before going further, make sure your Versa is in the charger and connected to your PC. After that, press the WiFi settings and, when everything is correct, you will see the name of your home's network with right next to it a white WiFi icon. If that's not the case, you probably did not enter you network's password. You can do that manually. If there is no network at all, press add network and make sure your phone is near to your router. Once found, enter password and after that press the white WiFi icon right next to the name of your network. Fitbit will start searching for it and once found, the icon turns to blue and says connected. Keep your Versa in the charger and perform the update. Regards kuzibri

Simple answer. Not for me.Bought my Versa in the summer, this year.No problems.Updated to latest firmware last week.32.70.7.14 Battery drain is hopeless.80% when switched off at bedtime.Takes ages to switch on in the morning.Battery average 15%.Read lots of problems from others with this update.Tried rebooting several times, formatting my Versa, uninstalling on my phone, etc, but no use.Come on Fitbit, sort this out.And yes,I am quite tech savvy, and recognise "a software fault" when I see one

So I guess my reply post got deleted for posting the truth about this firmware with the response I received from Fitbit Support via Twitter.

While it's great that there are some users who updated and had no issues with the firmware update and the behavior of their Versas a lot of users haven't been as lucky. Since users are still posting with the same issues since the 12/5 rollout I'm going to opt out doing it until the firmware shows stability and bugs have been fixed.

i think the vast majority of users updated their versa and the vast majority did not get any troubles.

Now why are there some people that have problems. I have no idea..

I updated mine last week.... my original versa which is now 1 year and 8 months.
My battery last 4 days still..
Notification go thru.
Plus i got a couple nice apps ..
no problems at all.

I know its frustrating. First watch i returned within a couple of days cause of battery issues but had not had a problem with this one.

i also think that the original versa was not built with quality component thus a lot of them broke ...

I am hoping the versa 2 will be as good or better then then one i have now..
I have ordered it days ago.

I updated to the latest Firmware last week. I have no issues either. My phone is not on the list of compatible phones. It took me over 2 hrs to update, but there were issues on my end with my wifi/data connection. So far, everything is still working as it should. Actually, notifications are a lot better now than what they were when I first turned them on. I have syncing issues, but that again is b/c of non-compatible phone.Other than that, no issues. I like the new features.

Well in looking at the thread for the Firmware Version roll-out, more users are starting to either reply to the posts that have been posted or posting new about what they have encountered with the bugs / issues associated with this firmware.  Other folks have started their own threads about this firmware as well.

Could be luck on the users that haven't had any issues with the update having a proper QC's Versa right from the bat, could be a bad batch of Versas that eventually a firmware update would kill and mess up.....who knows.

I'm just not willing to take a chance on this firmware to gain a few apps that I really didn't plan on using anyways.

Hi everybody, thank your for sharing your feedback about the recent firmware update for Fitbit Versa.

About the firmware update, please make sure that your syncing device meets the Fitbit requirements. You can follow the step in this article to update your Fitbit Versa: How do I update my Fitbit device?

If you run into any trouble updating your Fitbit, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:

    • Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30-minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.

    • On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.

    • Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.

    • Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations

    • Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.

For more information on the new features included in Fitbit OS 4.1 check out this article. You can also check out our press release

@YojanaFitbit

You didn't address the question asked by @pbug56

All you did was copy what was new with this firmware which we all know.

Have the bugs been that this firmware been addressed and taken care of.  If you read through the thread of when the firmware was first posted, users are still having major issues with this firmware.

For me the enhancements aren't useful if this firmware makes my Versa unusable.  What's the point really in updating if the bugs / issues are still there.

Agreed with Maddy. I asked a question, and instead of an actual straight
answer I get my questions deleted by you and your fellow censors. We care
a lot less about new features than we do about whether our Fitbit's will
keep working properly after an update - if indeed the update will take. We
also care about long promised features like SPO2 than we do about new
features. So please, no more nonsense, no more answers to questions we are
not asking. We could care less about the December updates if to take them
we need to take the October updates with all their problems. Or if the
December updates are buggy. So please, tell us if the buggy updates are
being pulled back and corrected, and when it will be safe to start
accepting updates again. And when the months old update that made it much
harder to sync will be fixed.
