I bought my Fitbit yesterday when I brought it home I put it on the charger I made my Fitbit account and my Fitbit versa Said it was updating, it has been doing this ever since. When I go into the app it said the same thing...

Hey @Heatherbush, welcome to the Community! Congrats on getting a new Fitbit Versa! And don't you worry, I'll be more than happy to help you out with updating it's firmware. But first let me ask you this, are you updating your watch over Bluetooth or over Wi-Fi? In the meantime follow the instructions for each scenario:

  • Using Wi-Fi:

If you have trouble updating your watch over Wi-Fi, try these steps to resolve the problem:

Step 1

  1. Make sure your watch is connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to use. For instructions on how to add a network, see How do I connect my Fitbit watch to Wi-Fi?
  2. Move your watch closer to your router.
  3. Make sure your router is connected to the internet.
  4. Restart your watch by holding the back (left) and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo.
  5. Try again to update your watch.

If the update failed, continue to step 2.

Step 2

  1. Restart your phone.
  2. Try again to update your watch.

If the update failed again, continue to step 3.

Step 3

Check to see if you have another Fitbit tracker or watch paired to your phone. If so, you must tell your phone to "forget" the device, removing the connection between the phone and the Fitbit device.

  1. On your phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth > find the tracker or other watch in the list > find an option to forget the device.
  2. Try again to update your watch.

If you can't update your watch over Wi-Fi, follow the on-screen instructions in the Fitbit app to update your watch over Bluetooth instead. Note that firmware updates over Bluetooth may take significantly longer to complete.

  • Using Bluetooth:

Step 1

  1. Try turning Bluetooth on and off on your phone.
  2. Restart your watch by holding the back (left) and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo.
  3. Try again to update your watch.

Step 2

  1. Restart your phone.
  2. Try again to update your watch.

If the update failed again, continue to step 3.

Step 3

Check to see if you have another Fitbit tracker or watch paired to your phone. If so, you must tell your phone to "forget" the tracker, removing the connection between the phone and the Fitbit device.

  1. On your phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth > find the tracker or other watch in the list > find an option to forget the device.
  2. Try again to update your watch.

Let me know if that works!

This is insane! You spend so much money and you have to jump through 10,000 hoops just to turn it on and start using it! My Fitbit versa lite is the worst purchase I've ever made.

I agree. Worst thing I've spent my money on.

You got that right...I've never seen something so limited.  I'm literally in the middle of trying to update my Firmware...you can forget WiFi because it only works if you are running the 2.4GHz mode ONLY.  Which, of course, is the slowest possible AND most network devices in this day and age use 5.0 GHz or the type of setup where it runs both 2.4 and 5.0 and allows the router to decide.  Yeah, that breaks it as well.

Soooooooo....so you don't have to break your entire WiFI SSID setup you have to go the Bluetooth route which can take DAYS...I know because the last time I tried this I set the stupid device aside on a Saturday and came back on Monday and it wasn't done.  That was AFTER restarting 5 times with 2 reboots.  I wouldn't take another one of these devices if it was given to me WITH $20.00!  An Apple watch can be had for less $$ than a Versa 2 and is VASTLY superior.  Good luck!!
