Is the Versa 2 worth buying in 2023?

I've had an Alta HR for about 5 years and I was extremely satisfied with it, but it was stolen and now I'm forced to upgrade, unfortunately. I want to switch to a smart watch now, instead of a simple fitness tracker and out of all of the available options, the Versa 2 is the one I like the most.

I've read several posts on this sub recently, how everyone seems to be struggling with the new Versa 2 update, that it destroys a lot of functions that shouldn't have any problems. I like the Versa 2's simplicity and I think I would be fine if I couldn't use its "extra" functions, like downloading Spotify songs. However battery duration is extremely important to me, so I couldn't get used to a device that I have to charge daily.

So my question is, have the new updates made the Versa 2 completely unusable or should I be okay with one if I buy it new? Or should I look for a more supported model instead, perhaps from a different brand?

Hi @logan55 - the Versa 2 is one of the best Fitbits, though some people had issues after the updates, however once installed from scratch it should work fine [if you avoid any updates] and has better vibration than the newer watches, more reliable charging and a wide range of clocks and apps. Go for this one over the more expensive ones and if you do note this to simplify installation Incorrect Set up of a new device

The competition also has good watches so it's worth investigating fully. The choice depends largely on your requirements and price range. Probably stick to those with a 6 day battery life or more, less charging and less hassle.

Seems as though the Versa 1 2 and 3 are having some sortt of malfunction. Watch just shuts down and won’t turn back on again unless placed on charger then only stays on for less than 30 minutes. I have been a Lyla Fitbit owner and have gone through 5 watches since 2016. DONE!!!   Ordered an Apple Watch.

Hi @donnapryor - a watch that is suffering water damage may show the symptoms you express but ones that are waterproof should work normally and have a battery life of upto 6 days, 5 more days than an Apple!.

@logan55 The Versa2 is the only Fitbit I'll still buy due to heart rate performance during exercise. IMO, you can't beat it. It's a few years old so you can get it a lot cheaper than the newer ones as well. I've never had a problem with any Firmware update since 2016. As long as you buy it from an authorized retailer, you're covered. You would get the firmware update in a few days. It'd still even be returnable. Nothing to lose.

Sorry I didn't get a backup one when Costco had them on sale for $80.

Watch has never been wet or submerged in water. Other Fitbit versa owners having same problem and the same day mine flaked out. Weird coincidence?

@donnapryor There are millions of them out there. Where are all the others complaining of the same issue? I still have two Versa 1's and a Versa 3 as well. I'll bet if I turn them on, they won't mysteriously just shut down and won’t turn back on again unless placed on charger. No such issue with my current Versa 2 I'm wearing.

I’m glad that you are not having an issue. However I am and so are other owners. Thanks for your feedback.

@donnapryor- I agree with @MarkMM - there are so many out there and you only come on here when there is a problem and see a few others who have had the same problem. It's difficult to draw conclusions on such a small sample.

Regardless what you deem to be large or small problem it is a problem nonetheless.

@donnapryor Can you post links to where others had the same problem the same day as you claim?

I have 5 working Fitbits that haven't done that,

Also, you state you bought an Apple Watch, So now you're just hanging around to dissuade others from buying Fitbits?

Seriously? This issue isn’t that important to me as it seems for you. You want receipts of what I posted then go check the versa forum. As far as “hanging out” and dissuading others ….well okay sorry for stating an opinion in a forum.
Have the day you deserve.

@donnapryor You made the claim. Back it up! I don't see anything to suggest multiple peoples Versa 1,2, and 3's all went dead the same day.

There is nothing in your "receipts" other than another post yesterday, outside of this thread announcing you're done with Fitbit and went to Apple. Says you have 21 posts but 15 are deleted?

I'm supposed to have a certain type of day because I don't agree with your your claim?

@donnapryor Yes I agree. Spend way to much time online this morning. Could have been moving hours sooner.

Thank you! You have a great day as well!

I've not had issues with mine the last 2 yrs, i also have the versa 2 as my first smart watch after having the simple tracker before. It's been amazing.

My battery lasts a week as i changed it  to not light up from movement only when i click on it, saves so much battery.

Previously my fitness trackers have problems by 2yrs while my versa 2 still going strong so i recommend it.
