Dear Fitbit,
You could of saved me a lot of time and aggravation, by letting me know that the charging cradle is for charging only and no data transfers are allowed thru the USB charging cradle. I just assumed that I could transfer my music thru the charging cradle, like I can my phones and cameras, but I cannot. You could put a little removable sticker on the charging cradle that says something like "charging only" or "not for transfering data" -- Then, after we consumers are aware of this fact - we can remove the sticker for cosmetic purposes. At least we wouldn't waste our time.
If Data (my music) CAN INDEED be transferred thru the charging cradle, you need to let me know how - because my PC (where my music is) is connected to my network at home thru an Ethernet cable, and my desktop PC does NOT have "Wifi"
This data transfer limitation is pretty ridiculous - wifi only?... I would think the software engineers and hardware engineers would sit down and make sure that we would be able to easily transfer our music on and off our devices as we see fit, Fitbit. It's what a lot of Iphone users hate about the Iphone, having to use Itunes to add and remove music.
Using Win10: here is what I have, the time I wasted and the problems I am having:
(1) My PC (where my music is located) is connected to the Internet via an Ethernet Cable to my router.
(2) My Fitbit Versa is connected to my PC via the USB supplied charger
(3) I installed the ap on my phone, and I went thru all the steps - seems to be working 100% charged.
(4) I installed the fitbit ap on Win 10 via the Microsoft store.
(5) My Versa is in transfer mode (connecting)
(6) In the Win 10 ap, I click on "Media" and then "Personal Music" -- The P and Versa will not connect.
(7) I tried the tips to connect button
(a) - verify your watch is on the same wifi network. --- WHAT? wifi? my PC doesnt have wifi!
(b) -Is my network Type supported? --- I GUESS NOT... Ethernet and USB is faster than Wireless, speed of data transfer -- but your company forbids us to be faster, by limiting access.
(c) - I turned off Bluetooth on my phone to stpop "interference"... dont matter... (A&B Must have wifi!)
(d) - still in transfer mode... yep... but they will never find each other, because my desktop PC is hardwired to the internet.
You see the waste of time??
😞 boo on you Fitbit ....for these difficulties.

the cable is for charging only. It's never been advertised otherwise... on any of their devices.
i agree with you though... putting music on the versa is a paaain, but when you finally get it, it's good to not have to need your phone for music. And who uses Deezer? and pandora plus?
But seeing that fitbit is very new to the "true" smartwatch game ... they have a bit of a ways to go still.

Thanks for your reply... you calmed me down a bit. Now I have to find a wireless dongle in my collection of computer parts that I have collected over the years and reconfigure my Desktop PC to run wireless.
Thing is... I cannot even transfer it from my phone or my ipad, otherwise I would transfer and then transfer again....sigh.. I will figure it out eventually.

I want to load up some music on my brand spanking new Versa (got it today) but it does not see my wifi network at all (two routers and two PCs) unless I use my smartphone. I got the update installed after 4 hours of juggling things and I got a new clock face. Good. But, I cannot load up any music via my phone, desktop app only and since my PC apps don't see the network..........curses! The USB data cable would allow for some speedy data transfers indeed and a minimum of frustration. I spent four hours getting my device updated and installed and I'm a PC technician, retired. I love my Versa though! It's the best, my 4th Fitbit since 2015.

I finally got mine to work:
I installed all the software on PC and Versa following all the prompts (as listed above)
Nobody told me to do this-- but, I disconnected the ethernet and installed a wireless dongle and connected to the same wireless connection my versa was connected to... opened up the win10 ap, and opened up the transfer connection on my versa and transferred over a 1 hour workout mix mp3 once the win10 ap finally found the versa.
The transfer icon spins and spins with no indication if it's even working or not (be nice to see a percentage complete number or something). But it worked. Took about 20 minutes.
Bluetooth headset was pretty easy.
Hope this info helps someone -- the key points are: The charging cradle only charges (no data transfer) and the win10 app can only connect to the versa via wifi and not ethernet, even if your ethernet cable is connected to the wifi router!

I also got my music transfer to work. I've managed to resolve all my issues so far, but it was no easy task. All said and done, I LOVE MY VERSA!

You can transfer from a Windows PC that is connected over ethernet and not WiFi. I have done this myself. There are lots of reasons it might not work though, depending on how you have your WiFi set up.
The wifi connection of the Versa is pretty bad though. I have to have the Versa very very close to my access point.

I don't use ethernet, but it is available to me; we have several laptop PCs using wifi. The strangeness is, even though my Versa app on my PCs cannot see my two wifi networks, I can transfer music. When the app searches for my wifi networks, nothing ever comes up. When I put the Versa in music transfer mode, the app will come up after about 30 seconds. I can then make playlists and add folders of mp3s. When I try to manage the wifi, nothing is there or ever comes up. Spooky! I'll take it since it all works and works well. One thing though, our PCs have the older and clunky bluetooth adapters.

HOW?!
For the love of God, please tell me.
I only have an ethernet connection through my router and my PC has no Wifi. At this point I need to run off and buy a wifi receiver just to have music on my versa.
So if you know of a way to make it work without a wifi connection, please let us know. There are many people who could benefit from this information.
