Is the Versa waterproof?

ANSWERED

I have seen other topics, however, they are more talking about the Ionic. I'd like to see if anyone has actually gone swimming or showered (doubt the latter) with the Versa on and how did it fair?

I can see with the Ionic the states aren't super accurate however I am not too worried about the stats. I am more wondering about the device itself. Any issues or complications with it post swim or during the swim. I have only had mine a couple of days and have yet to get the guts to sink it.

It is unfortunate that Fitbit promotes the versa has a device you can swim in when in actuality you cannot and have it last longer than 4 months. Had I known that I could not swim in it I would not have purchased it. Yes they will send another one but I bought it believing I can swim in it. Disappointed!

Update:

Just because you circle a claim that states that the Fitbit Versa is water resistant up to 50 meters does not make it so. The reality for a lot of us is the product is not holding up to the claim that has been circled. I have been sent 3 devices and now on my fourth device in 13 months. I have not gone swimming I just bath in it and dry it like it says to do(I guess I should ask how should I dry it). Somehow the water still seeps into the device and the monitor goes out. How many devices would you like to send me before you understand it is not living up to what Fitbit claims.

I completely agree. I would have chosen another product but they said this was “swim proof”. I only used mine in the water during water aerobics sessions 3 days a week and none of three watches held up. I really wanted a product that could track all of my activity ie walking, steps, etc

A water-proof device does not exist. Every wearable begins to leak at a certain depth. This is what water resistance ratings are for: https://gadgetsandwearables.com/2019/04/17/water-resistance-meaning/

I didn’t say I thought anyone was crazy, for clarification. I just thought it was bad luck because I don’t know anyone who has had problems with their Fitbit not being water proof. They’re more popular here than the Apple Watch. But I hope you’re new watch works for you as spending over 500 on it as opposed to 200, it should definitely be! Good luck!

Nope. As I just said, no one I know has problems with theirs. Yes I do actually swim with it. I shower, bathe, do dishes and wear it whenever I’m doing something with water and have never had a problem.

Have a good day and good luck with your new watch!

Update:

Wow four watches? I’m glad I didn’t have this problem but there’s no way I would have gotten another after the second. Maybe you should try a new kind of watch!

Good luck!

I wouldn’t say my issue has been resolved, since I have yet to receive the third unit in 8 months that I bought specifically for swimming, yet cannot last more than a couple of months in a chlorine pool while I am doing very mild strokes (not even over hand.) I am going to put this up for sale on eBay and use the proceedings to buy a competitor model with much better life span.

Best Answer

No need to spend $500 when a comparable unit is available for what I paid for my Versa (about $200.) Maybe your water is softer where you’re at, who knows. I am requesting a third unit because I expect a company to provide a quality product when I shell out that kind of money. Like I said earlier, I can forgive one bad unit-but 2 (and numerous others having the same issue?) is not a coincidence.

I went into the pool and my Versa went dead and had to be replaced.  I don’t think the Versa is waterproof.

I have swam with it, showered with it, and stuck my hands in a sink full of dishes and soapy water. No problems whatsoever and I habe had it for over a year now.

The versa has been an awesome watch!

I guess I've been one of the lucky ones. My versa has survived swimming at least 3 times a week for the past year. My only complaint is the watch doesn't have better swim metrics like SWOLF.

Best Answer

Add me to the list of people who have gone swimming and have had their Versa die. Mine was just outside of the warranty period. This is my third different Fitbit device that has had a warranty type issue.

@ggoings wrote:

no it is not and it is not waterproof or water resistant up to 50 meters. I am on my fourth Versa (in 13 months) and the longest that it has lasted is 4 months. An occasional splash of water is fine but do not submerge in water unless you want to keep having Fitbit send you another device. I wish they would stop advertising that it is water resistant up to 50 meters. The Versa is not holding up to that specification.

I don't know, when mine started leaking, it was leaking so badly that I think a bit of sweat from a workout would have taken it out eventually. My guess is whatever seal they use around the sensor is not a kind of seal that lasts very long. Many that fail seem to fail around the one year mark? I suppose I'll just avoid submerging mine from now on, and clean it with a damp cloth instead of putting it in the water.

I completely agree; the versa will be okay as long as it is not submerged in water it will work fine.  As you have probably seen from my previous posts, I am on my fourth watch too.  The one I am wearing now, I do not do water aerobics in it, I do not shower in it or allow it to get wet.  I do believe we should be compensated in some way or form for this.  The only solution I was given is that they would pay one-half of the cost of another watch, but would not allow me to switch the Versa for another Fitbit product.

Thank you for the information regarding waterproof vs water resistance - however, since Fitbit markets the Versa as a device you can use in the water, and we consumers trusted them to have a product that would live up to its promise, you will excuse us for expecting the product to last longer than four months. Had Fitbit put in a disclaimer in their Versa advertisements that "Versa watch is a wonderful step tracker, sleep monitor, and timepiece-but you will not be able to swim with it on a consistent basis for more than four months," I would never have bought mine - and I suspect I am not alone. Our gripes are with the advertisement of this item and its failure as a water resistant device that one could swim with on a regular basis, not semantics as to whether it's truly waterproof or resistant to a certain level. I don't know about others, but my arms are less than a meter long, and the watch is submerged for maybe 45 minutes to a depth of maybe two feet, for at the most, four times a week..Doesn't seem overly exacting to me. Maybe I missed something in the advertising. Not a happy camper at this point.

Best Answer

I agree with you. Maybe it's a chlorine issue, but Fitbit should not advertise this item as water resistant.
