Is there an always on display setting?

Hi. Wondering if the Versa will offer an always on display setting?

I want to see minutes and seconds when I make my turns while swimming with a quick glance. Can the vesa be set to show its display throughout the workout?

I would think it will work like all the fitbit trackers - if you have the auto feature enabled you will see the screen when you turn your wrist for a few seconds and then it will go back to black

I imagine it will be the same as the Ionic where the screen can be set to always on during swimming (or any other workout). You would select the workout app, scroll to swim, tap the gear icon in the top left corner of the screen and then scroll down to always on screen and set it to on.

I find I can see my stats while swimming easily with my Ionic. It just takes a slight wrist movement, to wake the screen, which I find naturally happens at turns. I believe Versa should work just like the Ionic, so you shouldn't have an issue seeing info on the screen when you need it.

Hi @sparkskzoo The screen will auto wake, like it does on the Ionic and other Fitbits, which means with a slight turn of your wrist, you can see your screen. My guess is an always on feature would drain the battery, which defeats the purpose of having 4+ days of batter life.

@sparkskzoo Given there will be watch faces for the Versa like the Ionic, for which there are ones enabling “always on” I’d answer “yes”. However, Fitbit don’t themselves offer always on in their stock faces. The system settings allow for a display on for 10, 15 or 20 seconds by default.

The other option is that the versa supports always-on during exercise tracking:

"You can also choose to keep the screen on during exercise (known as Always-on Screen). "

Thank you. I am currently considering buying one of the two. That info helps. Being unable to see my watch is one of my biggest swimming frustrations - second to goggle leakage.

Well Samsung has an option to have watchfaces in ambient mode (always on display), which uses less power. Seems like the Versa should be able to do this. Of course it would use up more battery but I can get a full day of use with an always on display on my Samsung Gear S2.

Hmm. The display doesn't come on with motion? You have to touch it with your other hand? That may be a deal breaker.

Yes, the display comes on with motion.  There is a setting called Screen Wake that, when set to Auto,  turns on the display when you raise and twist your arm to read it.  There is another setting that has that on time be 10, 15 or 20 seconds.

Coming on with motion is a close process. Would be nice to have the option of a simple white on black display that stays on even at the cost of battery life.

I have certain exercise activities set where the display is always on when doing that workout.  I like having it on for some activities so appreciate being able to do that.  For others, the 20 second on with the wrist motion works fine.

There are some watch faces with always on function.

I only need an always on display with ad least 3 days of use in the most extreme screen conditions,  as the Pebble was before.  No need of any sports registrations.  It looks like Fitbit still can't upgrade a simple Pepple watch from 3 years ago.

As mentioned above, the clock face developer can enable an "Always On" option in the face settings.

You can then also enable low-light standby on top of this as a separate setting.

From the clock face page on your phone, search for the keyword "always" and you'll find a number of analog and digital faces that have enabled these options.

Once you install the face on your watch, select Settings on the clock face app on the PHONE to see the Always-On option (not the watch settings).
