Isn't a mile a mile?

I was just informed that if I walk beside a friend and he or she logs in 1 mile and I log 3/4 of a mile even though we walked exactly the same distance side by side our Fitbits are still working correctly. The differnce according to the Fitbit representative is I may be shorter than may walking partner therefore I may not have walked the same distance. I asked her if that even made sense to her and she responded,

YES! Is this the new math they are teaching? Can someone out there tell me if it's me or Fitbit that makes no sense what so ever??

Hi @drrichardgarden it might seem like new math, but it's actually these wrist based devices need us to move our arms. I had to learn to move my hands while walking instead of putting them in my pocket or holding something. Might that be the case for you?
