Can't unlock my phone. Tried various suggestions. In the end unpaired then paired again coming up with a message asking for a code on phone which didn't come up still showing "unlock your phone". Also tried factory reset.

I think the message you are receiving is to :"Unlock with your phone", not " Unlock your phone".
Removeing the tracker from your Fitbit account will now make this impossible to do..
A factory reset may be needed if the 4 digit setup code does not display on the tracker.
First I would try and setup the Versa, making sure that the display is dark before doing the setup process. Let the Fitbit app turn the display on when it sends the code.
If this doesn't work and since we can not unlock the Versa we will need to do the button hardware factory reset.
On the watch, hold all three buttons for about twelve seconds. This triggers the 2-button hardware reboot after about eight seconds.
- When the Fitbit logo appears, then disappears, release the bottom right button, then continue holding the left and top right buttons until you feel a strong vibration. This indicates the factory reset was initiated.
- This process may take several seconds, and eventually, the Fitbit logo appears and the device boots and displays go to Fitbit.com/setup.
- If you fail to release the bottom right button in time, or otherwise don't follow the procedure precisely, the Fitbit logo reappears quickly and boots without factory reset.
