It’s showing more steps on leaderboard app then on fitbit

On the leaderboard app, it says that I have 51, 518 steps. When I swipe up to go to fitbit today to see my stats, it says 9,000 steps. I’m wondering why they say different numbers? I thought that it was the average at first but I don’t think I’ve ever gotten 50,000 steps in my life! Is it the average in a week or something? I really want to know!!! I know it might sound stupid or obvious but it’s not really to me 😅 please help!

This is purely a guess, @LilyVersa9197, but I think that's the steps for your overall leaderboard of friends since you got the Fitbit.  The "Today" app only measures your progress for today.
